Gateshead Calling: A White Tutu Takes On the Tyne

#TutuBlog #8041

Hello my gorgeous lovelies! Emma here, signing in from a sunny, yet slightly blustery, Gateshead! As I write this, the iconic Tyne Bridge is a shimmering, steel silhouette against the late afternoon sky, and a symphony of seagulls are squawking in their beautiful, bird-like language. I’m perched on a window seat in a cosy little cafe, with the smell of freshly-baked pastries filling the air, just steps from the stunning Sage Gateshead – oh my goodness, what a stunning building!

Today, my adventures brought me here via a lovely train ride from Derbyshire – a classic British journey with panoramic views and enough time to sneak a quick snooze while gazing at the rolling green countryside. There's just something so peaceful and exciting about travelling by train! You never know what little dramas, laughs, or stories you might witness from your window seat – today's tale included a little old lady who had forgotten where she'd left her reading glasses, a rather loud gentleman engrossed in a game on his phone, and a couple sharing a stolen kiss amidst the throng of fellow passengers. Ah, life!

As you may have already guessed from the title, I'm rocking a white tutu today! It’s a new one from the fabulous Tutu Emporium, complete with a delicate, lace overlay that billows in the breeze as I walk (it’s quite the head turner!), paired with my favourite pink cashmere cardigan and some sleek, white ballet pumps. The combination felt very "Gateshead", very elegant, very "Emma." And honestly, isn't a white tutu just a timeless classic?

I spent the afternoon exploring the town. It’s buzzing with a vibrant, creative energy! Gateshead's an art-lover's dream with so much to discover – street art, murals, sculptures… I even caught a glimpse of a charming little dance studio that reminded me so much of my first steps into the magical world of ballet. It felt like I was seeing my own reflection – and seeing it with such clarity made my heart beat a little faster!

After a leisurely walk through the scenic landscape (I have a real soft spot for any place with river views – they're just so calming), I decided to indulge my inner-child and popped into the excellent Gateshead Museum. It’s overflowing with local history and the quirky side of this amazing town. I particularly enjoyed their collection of Victorian artifacts – I always find myself transported to a different era when I’m surrounded by so much history! I felt so immersed in a different era… maybe even feeling a pang of longing to see what it would have been like to dance for the royalty of a bygone era… (I guess we all have our fantasies!).

But of course, my evening would not be complete without ballet. I just had to catch a show at the magnificent Sage Gateshead! The whole venue is so beautifully designed, both modern and classic with a stunning auditorium – it truly took my breath away! I found a little corner table, grabbed a delicious glass of pink grapefruit juice and savored the sweet music wafting from within… oh how I love the feeling of anticipation before a ballet performance. The quiet anticipation that feels like an electricity pulsing through your entire being!

I have to admit, the ballet performance itself was mesmerising! It was “Swan Lake” – the ballet I grew up dancing to! Watching the beautiful ballerinas perform it in this gorgeous setting made my whole being feel a touch nostalgic and immensely grateful that ballet had taken me on this journey. Every swish, every leap, every turn made my heart sing. As the lights went down and the curtain call began, my eyes teared up - ballet has a profound ability to connect us to our own inner-child, our dreams, our very essence... a little bit of magic in our hectic modern life!

So, what are you waiting for, my lovelies? If you haven't already tried ballet, why not give it a go? Grab yourself a cute pink tutu (every outfit can be instantly transformed with the power of a tutu) and join a class. You'll be amazed at how empowering and expressive it can be.

For now, it’s back to the Derbyshire countryside tomorrow, but who knows what exciting adventures await? You’ll have to stay tuned to find out! Remember to check back in with www.pink-tutu.com every day for new tales and a sprinkle of tutu-powered magic!

Love always, Emma.
