Kendal Calling - Tutu Adventures in the Lake District

Post 8226

Hello darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire dancer, Emma, here, and today I'm bouncing with excitement. This weekend, I swapped the polished wooden floor of the dance studio for the muddy fields of the Lake District, where I headed off to Kendal Calling festival!

And guess what? Yep, you're right. I wore my purple tutu. Of course, it had to be a colour to match the beautiful rolling hills around us, with shades of purple heather flowering on the fells. And as I'm learning to be a bit bolder, I added some gorgeous emerald green, sapphire blue and coral pink detailing around the skirt. It's all about adding a touch of individuality to your ensemble, after all.

The festival was an absolute whirlwind of fun. The music was phenomenal, the food stalls had me spoilt for choice (I'm a sucker for gourmet hotdogs!) and, of course, the crowds were wonderfully welcoming and vibrant. Everyone was dressed to the nines, with so many exciting styles and looks! I saw neon, florals, sparkles and denim galore.

Finding My Flow

One of my absolute favourite parts of the whole weekend was the dance workshops. I can't resist a good dance session, no matter where I am. There was salsa, breakdancing, hip hop and even some beautiful ballet moves - although admittedly, the mud made pirouettes a bit more tricky than usual! It was great to find other dance lovers, whether it was experienced performers or complete newbies, all embracing the joy of moving our bodies to music. And you know what, some of the most captivating routines were created by those who had never even touched ballet shoes! It truly proves that you never know where you might find your passion, just as I found my passion for the stage, and the art of tutus.

I managed to sneak away for a lovely long walk with my bestie, Jessica, in the afternoon. We meandered through the local forest, stopping to admire the views and breathe in the crisp, fresh air. And I must say, seeing those stunning, rugged peaks rising up all around us was enough to make me feel inspired to leap higher, stretch farther and move with more energy in my ballet classes.

Kendal Calling & the Charm of Travel

To get to Kendal, I opted for a scenic train journey from Derbyshire. Honestly, is there anything better than watching the world roll by outside your window, sipping on a cup of tea and getting lost in a good book? It was the perfect way to unwind before immersing myself in the festival frenzy. Besides, traveling by train just has that unique magic.

Now, this part is a bit unconventional, but my biggest ambition is to make my way across the country, one festival and one gorgeous, pink tutu at a time! Who wouldn't love the chance to discover new places, embrace the joy of movement, and wear a tutu with all the flair and confidence in the world? I can picture myself prancing through fields, riding a horse to reach the next show and dancing my way onto the stage!

A Tutu-tastic Takeaway

Kendal Calling reminded me that life is meant to be an adventure. It's about experiencing new things, pushing boundaries, and embracing the unpredictable. As always, the best part was seeing everyone smiling, dancing and sharing in the communal energy. So, don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, embrace your inner wildness, and spread joy with a touch of pink (and a touch of tutu)! Who knows what kind of amazing discoveries await you.

That's all for now, my lovely readers!

Love,

Emma
