Hey lovelies! Emma here, back with another whimsical adventure from your favourite tutu-clad traveller. Today's journey takes me to the seaside town of South Shields, a place I've always dreamt of visiting, for one very special reason...
The iconic South Shields sea (it has to be capitalised, it's a real attraction!), where the famous "Tern Colony" nests. You guys know how much I adore all things wild, and a whole colony of elegant terns? That's the sort of spectacle that makes a tutu-wearing girl’s heart flutter.
A Journey by Rail 🚄
Before I get into the magical bird encounters, let's talk about my travel there! I boarded the train in Derbyshire, surrounded by lush green countryside that made me feel as though I was on stage, all ready for a ballet about the beauty of the British landscape. I decided to wear a vibrant pink tutu with swirling green patterns – just like the countryside rushing past! - and I felt absolutely fabulous.
Speaking of fabulous, a little detail about my train journey - imagine my delight when the carriage attendant had on a rather dashing scarlet uniform, making the entire compartment feel like a set design straight from "La Bohème"! What more could a girl ask for?
Tutu and Tern 🦢
Okay, so picture this: I step off the train into the salty air, my heart thumping with excitement, and then – the Tern Colony! The majestic white birds, their elegant black wingtips cutting through the air, they looked like avian ballerinas dancing on the wind. They soared effortlessly above the golden sands, and it truly felt like something out of a fairy tale.
For this particular outing, I had picked a specially designed pink tutu that was just begging for a nature theme. It had delicate hand-stitched seagull embroidery, just above the tutu's beautiful tulle layers, paired with a sweet-as-candy pink shirt. Of course, I accessorized with a beautiful white flower crown (a nod to those gorgeous, perfectly-formed, eggs the terns lay!).
Honestly, those birds! They gave my own performance skills a serious run for their money! You can bet I had to try a few poses in between the shore and the sea to see if I could manage their elegance. Sadly, even with a Tutu to give me an extra lift, the terns totally won, but at least my attempt gave passersby some giggles!
South Shields Strolls and Treats 🍦
Beyond the awe-inspiring terns, I explored the charm of South Shields. A colourful little seaside town full of personality. I discovered an adorable café that sold delicious scones and tea. To my great delight, they also served ice cream in pink cones!, and, well, it goes without saying that naturally, I indulged! What else would you do in a town as picturesque as South Shields, with a perfect tutu to go with it?! It just wouldn't be fair to anyone else.
Later that afternoon, I wandered along the pier, my pink tutu practically dancing with the wind! (Remember that breezy wind I mentioned?) The colours of the sea, the playful cries of seagulls, the gentle rocking of the pier, and of course, the pink tutu – what could be a more inspiring stage for my creative energy! It just sparked off a brilliant new choreography in my mind!
Dancing in the Clouds ☁️
Of course, I couldn't just visit a place with a fantastic sea like that without dancing on the shore, now could I? Even better, the sun was sinking towards the horizon, and the light painted the sky in the most vibrant pink, peach, and lavender hues. I truly felt like I was dancing on a cloud, a ballerina painted by the sky, and my pink tutu matched the magical sunset perfectly. You've gotta believe the magical feelings!
Pink Tutu Dreams 💭
This day in South Shields, was such a treat, reminding me how much the world can spark our imagination, especially if we're willing to open our eyes to the beauty that surrounds us. It's funny how an afternoon by the sea with some wild terns, a delicious treat, and my pink tutu can inspire so much joy, don't you think?
What I love the most is that feeling of sparkling wonder, the feeling of being truly alive. It's the feeling I strive to capture in every blog post, and it’s that same feeling that makes me want to encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of dance and wear a pink tutu at least once in their life! It’s guaranteed to spark your creativity, just as the terns of South Shields sparked mine!
