Aylesbury Adventures: A Pink Tutu's Journey

Post Number 8584

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu aficionado, Emma, and I'm practically skipping with excitement as I write this post – because I'm fresh back from a trip to Aylesbury!

As you know, my love affair with trains is no secret. Something about the rhythmic clickety-clack, the scenic views whizzing by, and the feeling of adventure – pure magic! So, naturally, the journey itself was part of the fun.

Now, I know what you're thinking – Aylesbury isn't exactly known for its glitz and glam. But believe me, there's a certain charm to this market town in Buckinghamshire. It’s like stepping back in time, with cobbled streets and quaint little shops, all nestled under a gorgeous historic church.

This time, though, I wasn't simply seeking out antique teacups (although I did find a stunning Victorian tea set!). I was on a mission. A pink tutu-wearing mission, of course! You see, I've heard whispers of a hidden ballet studio nestled away in Aylesbury, a secret haven for dancers who love to twirl just as much as I do.

Now, this little studio wasn't just any old place, my dears. The owner, a beautiful woman with a fiery spirit, calls it 'The Dancing Fairies,' and she's absolutely right. It’s a wonderland of light and colour, with a floor so springy it almost feels like you’re walking on clouds. There were ribbons everywhere, shimmering costumes hanging from the ceiling, and, my absolute favourite, a massive mural of graceful swans in full flight.

They call this style of ballet “European style”, which basically means you’re all about elegance and precision, lots of dainty, little leaps and turns. But then they just throw in some more explosive, athletic movement – really puts it all together! I am seriously considering booking a longer stay so I can fully delve into their programme.

After a beautiful ballet class with an instructor whose graceful movements reminded me of a willow tree swaying in the wind, I felt absolutely exhilarated. We worked on our port de bras, exploring every possible nuance, making the smallest details truly magnificent. We flowed and we flew, creating a story with our bodies in every movement. It was breathtaking!

The best part, though, came afterwards. The other dancers – a group of absolutely gorgeous ladies ranging in age from their teens to those who'd been dancing for years – were so welcoming. We laughed, shared tips, and I even snagged some recommendations for a local cafe (they wouldn't believe the delicious cherry cake!). We were all united by our love for the art form and the thrill of a perfect plié!

Speaking of cafe, I have to tell you about this darling little place called ‘The Twirling Teacup’ – seriously, how cute is that?! It was like stepping into a picture-perfect fairy tale. They had a whole corner dedicated to ballet with vintage posters and beautiful floral bouquets – a truly magical spot for an afternoon tea.

And guess what I discovered on my wanderings through the town centre? A vintage costume shop! I swear, I almost fainted from excitement. Rows upon rows of sparkly tutus, feathery boas, and head-turning gowns, enough to make any fashion-forward ballerina’s head spin! I resisted the urge to buy everything (though I may have been slightly tempted to make off with that exquisite feather boa in shades of lilac and pink...don’t tell anyone!)

Now, no trip to a new town is complete without a touch of culture, right? Aylesbury’s ‘Waterside Theatre’ held a ballet performance by the town’s own local company, The Aylesbury Ballet Collective. They put on a phenomenal show! It was a whirlwind of passion, power, and artistry. I especially loved their take on the “Sleeping Beauty”, a piece they adapted for their town, focusing on the legends of Buckinghamshire! They took the classic and made it fresh and exhilarating – truly breathtaking!

While I was at the theatre, I made it my mission to spread the love of ballet and tutus. With a wide smile and a twinkle in my eye, I slipped into a vibrant pink tutu just as the final act was coming to a close. Imagine my delight when the entire theatre erupted into applause. The audience, captivated by the performance and my sudden appearance, seemed utterly charmed by the pink tutu magic. It was such a fun moment and really showcased how powerful fashion can be!

I spent the rest of the afternoon soaking up the last rays of sunshine by the canal, sketching my impressions of the graceful swans swimming peacefully. Their movement inspired me so much that I'm already planning a tutu-clad swan-themed ballet routine for my next blog post!

As the sun dipped low in the sky, casting a warm golden glow across the charming town, I knew it was time to board the train back home to Derbyshire. But Aylesbury left its mark on my heart – and I already know it’s only a matter of time before I return.

Remember darlings, a tutu is a powerful statement. It’s a reminder to embrace our inner elegance and never take ourselves too seriously. It’s a celebration of grace and joy.

Until next time, let’s all keep twirling!

Much love,

Emma xx www.pink-tutu.com
