TutuBlog #8585: Edmonton Calling! πŸ©°πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad travel blogger, back from a whirlwind adventure in Edmonton, Canada! Did you know January in Edmonton is officially "Winter Festival" month? It's like a giant celebration of everything snowy, sparkly, and just plain fun. ❄️ Well, me and my darling German tutu, named Gretchen (because everything German is fabulous!), simply had to be a part of the festivities!

We hopped aboard a sleek, silver train, leaving behind the crisp Derbyshire air and exchanging it for the crisp, cool air of Canada. The scenery was something straight out of a fairy tale! Rolling hills dusted in white, snow-covered pine forests that sparkled in the afternoon sun, and icy blue lakes that seemed to reflect the vast Canadian sky. I literally spent the whole journey with my face pressed against the window, squealing with delight! πŸš‚β„οΈβœ¨

When we arrived in Edmonton, I knew we were in for a treat! The city itself felt like a charming Christmas village. Lights twinkled everywhere, shops were decked out in festive greenery and gingerbread smells floated in the air, making me wish for a gingerbread latte (or two!). Edmonton really knows how to celebrate winter!

Our first stop was a show at the stunning Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. This beautiful building with its classic architecture and dazzling chandeliers had me practically leaping from my seat! It’s been an absolute dream to perform in the beautiful Victorian theatre of the Jubilee. We did a number from Giselle with the wonderful Alberta Ballet, they even gave us the stage to perform "Swan Lake" as well! It was pure magic! 🦒🎭

After our performance, we were invited to attend a truly fabulous ballet-themed afternoon tea. This, my lovelies, was an absolute dream! Think dainty finger sandwiches, delicate pastries, piping hot tea and – wait for it – a ballet-themed dress code! Of course, my trusty Gretchen was the star of the show, and it seemed everyone else had embraced the pink-tutu vibe too. It was quite the delightful scene to behold. 🌸πŸ₯‚πŸ°

And now, let’s talk about my favourite part of this entire trip: The Canadian Wildlife Habitat! The moment we stepped through the gates, I was transported to a world of snow-white foxes, graceful deer, and magnificent elk! The animals, all rescued and rehabilitated, were incredibly fascinating. I found myself drawn to their peacefulness and their effortless grace. It was a reminder to cherish the beauty of the natural world and to always respect the creatures who share it with us. 🌿🦌🦊

The experience at the habitat wasn’t just about animal encounters – it was about fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world and learning about conservation efforts. A key message from the habitat that resonated deeply with me was "Give Every Creature a Chance." I believe it is so important to support organizations like these who champion the wellbeing of our planet’s amazing creatures. πŸŒπŸ’š

Speaking of giving creatures a chance – my beloved Gretchen, the German tutu, deserves her own mention! She has travelled across continents with me and always delivers an effortless performance on and off stage! Gretchen has even inspired other ballet lovers to try on a tutu themselves – the pink wave is spreading! πŸ’•

Edmonton has truly captured my heart with its vibrant energy, winter magic and its commitment to nature. If you’re looking for a fun and unforgettable adventure, I recommend heading to Edmonton, especially in the winter. You’ll be charmed by the city’s snow-kissed landscapes and heartwarming atmosphere, and you might just discover that ballet is more accessible and joyous than you ever imagined!

I'm back in Derbyshire now, surrounded by fields dusted in snow. But my head is still filled with Edmonton memories. The city, the people, the snow, the ballet, the wildlife - it was all just so perfect!

Till next time, keep your tutu dreams big and keep those toes tapping, darlings! πŸ’–

Love,

Emma
