Bilston Bound: Pink Power and Pointe Shoes

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, here, ready to take you on a trip with me to the fabulously fabulous Bilston! This is blog post number 8762, because let's be real, every day's an adventure when you're a ballet-loving girly girl like me! 😉

I’ve been yearning for a change of scenery after the quiet days back home in Derbyshire. My ballet classes are going brilliantly, but sometimes, a girl needs a bit of excitement and a dose of culture, am I right? And that’s where the charming town of Bilston came in.

First things first: outfit! It’s pretty much a law of mine to wear a vibrant pink tutu whenever I'm exploring a new place. Why? Well, let's just say that pink is the ultimate colour of positivity and joy. It's a little slice of heaven on earth, and I want to spread that fabulousness around the world! So, my outfit today? A dazzling hot pink tutu, complete with shimmering sequins, a bright pink silk top, and my trusty pair of pointy-toed ballet flats. I know, I know, a pink tutu everywhere is a bit much… but trust me, it brings out the joy in everyone! 🥰

Since I am not one for cars (honestly, how can you enjoy the view!), I opted for the ultimate romantic way to get to Bilston: a journey by train! There’s something so enchanting about the rhythm of the wheels on the tracks, watching the scenery blur past the windows… and yes, a glass of prosecco from the onboard trolley made it extra special.

Once in Bilston, the first stop on my agenda was the wonderful, wonderful Bilston Craft Centre! It’s a haven for artisans, brimming with unique treasures, beautiful crafts, and a real sense of artistic passion. The scent of wood and fabric hung heavy in the air, and I practically felt a buzz of creativity as I wandered around. They even have a workshop space, which was amazing! If only I’d packed my needlepoint... (but that’s what next time will be about, a post entirely dedicated to making and creating!)

From the Craft Centre, it was a short stroll to the stunning Bilston Town Hall, which was built in the 18th century. You guys, the architecture was jaw-dropping! Its graceful pillars and intricate details transported me straight back in time. A quick visit to the Museum of Local History added some real context and depth to the place - it’s always fascinating to learn about the stories that made the town what it is today.

My afternoon, however, was dedicated to what I call the ultimate ballet experience: a live ballet show. And no, I’m not talking about some highfalutin theatre. Today’s show was the heart-pumping, energy-filled brilliance of Bilston Street Dance Collective. Seriously, this group was insane. Think acrobatics, breakdancing, and some truly mind-blowing street style choreography. Their energy was contagious, and even I felt like busting out some moves, which of course, I resisted. Maybe I’ll save it for the train journey back…

The show wasn't the only reason I was in Bilston, though! My lovely grandma used to live here (she’s from Derbyshire originally too!), so I wanted to pay a visit to the cemetery to leave some pink roses at her grave. It's strange, you know, even though I was there for her, the feeling was so full of joy! Thinking of her makes me smile, and the sun was beaming down like a halo above us, all very beautiful! 💖

You can’t really say you've seen Bilston unless you've seen the iconic “Billy the Fish”. For those of you not familiar, this 20 ft tall sculpture of a silver carp was a truly bizarre experience… a little scary, a little weird, and ultimately, really rather amusing! 😂

As the sun began to set on Bilston, casting the town in a warm, golden glow, I realized that I'd seen more than just historical sights today. I'd seen a vibrant community, felt the warmth of the town's history, and enjoyed an incredible showcase of creativity. Bilston reminded me, more than anything else, why I'm passionate about my mission to make ballet accessible for everyone.

Speaking of missions, my pink tutu crusade continues! You’ll never catch me without my tutu, even when travelling on horseback through the Scottish Highlands… but that's a story for another day! Stay tuned, darlings! 😉

Oh, and I nearly forgot to tell you about my adventure in a beautiful forest on the outskirts of Bilston! We can talk about it another day – it involves lots of adorable fluffy bunnies, playful squirrels, and possibly the most graceful deer you'll ever see! 🥰

Until next time, darlings, remember: the world is a beautiful place. Dance, twirl, and spread the joy! 💕
