Littlehampton, Oh So Lovely in My Green Tutu!

Blog Post #8890

Hello my beautiful tutu-loving lovelies!

It's Emma here, your Derbyshire pink tutu advocate, writing to you live from the seaside town of Littlehampton. As you all know, I love a good seaside adventure. And, even more so, a seaside adventure where I can wear a tutu!

Now, you might be wondering why I've chosen a green tutu for this trip? Well, you know how much I adore colour. And with the sea so blue and the sky such a beautiful clear azure, it only seemed right to go with a contrasting shade. And green, with its associations with nature and freshness, seemed the perfect choice! Don't you just love it when the sun catches the fabric, sending ripples of emerald and jade through the air?

The train ride down was just magical, all the little kids giggling in their summer dresses, seagulls circling in the air, and that crisp salt-tinged breeze blowing through my hair.

Oh, you just wouldn't believe how much fun it is to twirl on the train! Especially when the train is quite empty. People often stare, but with a big smile and a twinkle in my eye, they mostly just laugh and clap!

As soon as I got to Littlehampton, I felt that joyous, carefree energy that the seaside brings. The pier was buzzing with people, families enjoying fish and chips, the air filled with the scent of fried batter and the laughter of children. I even saw a man doing some rather impressive breakdancing near the ice cream stand!

I couldn't resist trying my luck at the arcade. Of course, I'm terrible at any game involving coordination and dexterity. (My strengths are graceful swirling and impressive leaps! Sadly, that doesn't apply much in the world of grabbing furry cuddly toys.) But the arcade had such a wonderful old-school feel and I managed to win a giant pink flamingo which I proudly carry everywhere. It has already found a home in my collection of dancing flamingo ornaments, you know, to cheer me on!

Of course, no seaside visit is complete without a wander along the beach. And that's exactly what I did. I was wearing a lovely floral headband with ribbons trailing down my back and, of course, my green tutu, the breeze whipping up around my feet. I felt so free, so happy. I even did a little bit of ballet right on the sand, my toes brushing the pebbles and the sea lapping gently at my feet. A few families gave me curious smiles and a couple of dog walkers offered enthusiastic claps. It is just so wonderful to see people enjoying the joy of ballet and appreciating beauty, no matter where they see it!

But this was more than just a trip to the seaside. It was a chance to explore the hidden treasures of Littlehampton.

I spent a happy afternoon in the beautiful Littlehampton Museum, learning about the fascinating history of the town, its connection to fishing, its wartime significance. And, naturally, the best bit was the "Victorian Costume and Social History" exhibition. I'm absolutely obsessed with the Victorian era and their fashion sense. Their beautiful layers of silk and lace and velvet and those amazing hairstyles, not to mention all those exquisite corsets, give me ideas for so many future outfits. If only I could get my hands on one of those massive hooped skirts. Just imagine twirling in that at the Royal Opera House! Now, that would be an outfit to truly see in London. Maybe one day!

The town centre itself was delightful - so many charming cafes, independent boutiques, and delightful antique shops overflowing with treasures waiting to be discovered. And even the bus stop was absolutely beautiful with a massive clock and colorful flower baskets - my love for pretty things, no matter how simple, knows no bounds!

While exploring a small bookshop, I stumbled across the most amazing little gallery. There were beautiful paintings, sculptures, and prints by local artists, and they all seemed to share my love for color and detail.

One painting in particular captivated me: it was a vibrant scene of dancers leaping and twirling under the stars, with their tutus a flurry of colour and movement. It was a reminder of why I do this. Why I dedicate my life to dancing, to promoting the beauty and joy of movement. To inspire others to find their own grace and creativity. And who knows? Maybe one day my work will find a place in that gallery, amongst all those beautiful artistic creations.

Even the animals seem to embrace ballet here. While sitting by the sea enjoying my cup of tea (a warm and creamy Earl Grey with oat milk - I'm going gluten-free this month to cleanse my palate and lose a bit of that "muffin-top" you know, just a little - and a chocolate brownie, why not?! ), I spotted a young fox peering out at me from behind the bushes. As if he knew I was a fellow lover of beautiful things, he gave me the tiniest, most charming bow. And as if he too was caught in a magical ballet performance, he darted back into the shrubbery as silently and mysteriously as he arrived. Oh, that was truly a delightful moment.

So my lovely pink tutu devotees, I must leave you for now. I'm back on that train, heading back to the hills of Derbyshire, with the salty tang of the sea still in my hair and a green tutu (and a big pink flamingo!) as souvenirs of my adventure.

Next week, I'll be taking you on a tour of London. (I have just purchased an elegant new lilac and silver tutu specifically for the trip!) Expect museums, cat cafes, vintage boutiques, a trip to the theater, maybe even a dance class! Until next time, my beautiful dancing darlings, stay creative, embrace the colour pink, and never stop twirling!
