Harrow, Oh Harrow! Tutu Adventures in a Fairyland

Hello my lovely tutu-lovers! It's your girl Emma, and I'm bursting with excitement after a day in Harrow, a town that’s surprisingly magical in a very particular way!

This trip wasn't planned, oh no, it was a spontaneous adventure sparked by a friend’s text asking if I fancied seeing "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" at the open-air theatre in Harrow. You know how I am with a Shakespearean story! It felt destined, and as soon as I said yes, a vision popped into my head - a sparkling, tulle-filled day in Harrow with a touch of the enchanted woods!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Emma, the only enchantment in Harrow is finding a parking spot.” Trust me, I've had my fair share of Harrow chaos trying to squeeze into those teeny tiny town centre car parks (especially when a lorry seems to think it’s perfectly okay to be parked in the middle of the road!).

But Harrow held its magic! Maybe it’s just the effect of the ancient church clock tower and those old half-timbered buildings whispering tales of days gone by. Or maybe, it was that ridiculously adorable fairy-themed tutu I wore, which I can’t tell you enough, is just EVERYTHING. Think shimmering moonlight pink with tiny twinkling lights – a proper fairy-in-waiting vibe. The thing is, it perfectly fit the Shakespearean mood!

I took the train down, which was pretty blissful – I’m convinced those British trains are basically moving sanctuaries for calm and creative thinking. Especially when the scenery whizzes past, making my brain think we're travelling through some epic countryside fantasyland. And it always sets my imagination in motion. Harrow was beckoning me with the promise of Shakespearean delights, and a new chapter in my own, personal Tutu Adventure!

Arriving in Harrow, I had that feeling of anticipation that comes with knowing you’re about to see something truly wonderful. The air itself felt a little lighter, a bit more effervescent, as if the fairy dust of Shakespeare's imagination was hanging around in the breeze.

And it only got better from there! The open-air theatre, set under a canopy of trees, was an actual dreamland come to life. There were fluttering fairy lights strung across branches, the air smelled like blooming flowers, and the theatre itself felt almost mystical, with its wooden stage and a backdrop of nature that couldn't be more perfect if I’d personally designed it.

As the play began, my fairy tutu seemed to twirl and shimmer with every scene! The magical setting and the Shakespearean verse got me utterly swept away, so much so that for those two hours, I wasn’t in Harrow. I was lost in the enchanted forest with the fairies and Puck!

Afterwards, I did some exploring – you know me and my love for discovering new places! There's an old park there with ancient trees and sprawling meadows – it's like something out of a vintage painting. I found the perfect spot beneath the dappled shade, spread out a picnic blanket, and just took it all in. Honestly, even the squirrels seemed more graceful here – they almost danced through the branches as I enjoyed my picnic of delicious cheeses, homemade sourdough bread, and a couple of lovely green apples – healthy and so pretty. I do love to keep it fresh and pretty, don't I?

It wasn’t all fancy fairytale vibes, though. One thing that tickled my funny bone was the street theatre. It was such a riot of colour! There was this hilarious bunch of performers doing their thing on the high street, mimicking birds and squirrels and even a dog chasing after a ball, all while wearing vibrant tutus of their own – sparkly turquoise, hot pink, shimmering emerald - you name it, they were sporting it! For a moment, the high street of Harrow transformed into an actual street ballet with these amazing, silly costumes, their theatrical antics had everyone grinning, and I was snapping photos as fast as my camera could handle it! It just proved that even the most ordinary settings can be infused with magic with the right sprinkle of tutus.

As the day ended and I boarded the train back to my Derbyshire abode, I had that feeling of lightness and wonder that stays with you after a truly magical adventure. Even the thought of returning to everyday life couldn’t dampen the fairy dust still clinging to my pink tutu!

Harrow was a surprise, an absolute surprise. A lesson in the fact that magic can be found even in the most unexpected places, especially when you’re wearing the perfect tutu and open to a little bit of whimsy! You know, just because it isn’t in a ballet theatre doesn’t mean the magical stories aren’t waiting to unfold! Harrow, you’ve won a place in my tutu-loving heart, and I'll definitely be back to enjoy your unique brand of enchantment.

So my sweet tutu-tastic friends, keep an open mind for magical adventures – they’re waiting just around the corner, and who knows what little delights you'll discover! Oh, and let me know if you've been to Harrow! Did you find any fairies? Any hidden gardens?

P.S. Let's all get out there in pink tutus, spread the joy and turn the whole world into a magical fairyland. What do you say?
