Edmonton Adventures: A Pink Tutu Takes on the Canadian Prairies

#9101

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from the wild Canadian prairies! It's been a whirlwind, a tutu-twirling adventure filled with so much fun and excitement. But don't worry, I haven't forgotten my favourite pink tutu for a second - it came with me, of course, a beacon of girlishness amongst the wide open spaces of Alberta.

This trip wasn't your typical dance-intensive adventure though. There was less pliéing and more…wildlife! I am a bit of a nature-lover at heart, so I jumped at the chance to trade the studio for the Canadian wilds. And believe me, there were plenty of wild things to see!

From German Tutu to Prairie Charm

You know how I love my tutus! And on this trip, I found the most adorable little tutu in Germany - think pastel pink, delicate lace, and a sprinkling of glittering rhinestones. Just perfect for adding a touch of ballerina magic to my adventures.

I travelled in style, too - by train, of course! Who needs stuffy aeroplanes when you can enjoy the changing landscapes from a comfortable carriage window? And with a pink tutu in tow, I was the epitome of travelling fashion!

Buffalo and Bear (Not The Ballet Kind!)

Edmonton is nestled amongst breathtaking landscapes, rolling prairies filled with nature's own beauty. And I had the chance to see the magnificent bison - those huge shaggy beasts with horns the size of my head! Imagine, trying to fit into a pink tutu alongside them, ha! It was surreal, like stepping out of a picture book.

We also came face to face with the iconic grizzly bear - not your average stage production, I tell you! Though he kept a safe distance (and thankfully so, I'm not keen on an impromptu ballet recital with a 700kg predator!).

Ballet on the Prairie? You Betcha!

While there wasn't a big stage or a professional dance company, there was still an undeniable element of ballet to our prairie adventures. My German tutu made several appearances, often twirling on horseback! It turns out a graceful gallop feels just as good as a grand jeté, and a whole lot more windswept!

Edmonton's history, steeped in First Nations culture, even influenced my ballet inspired journey. The way the Indigenous dancers tell their stories through movement – it’s so incredibly expressive! They truly made me re-evaluate what ballet can be.

Pink Tutu's in Every Corner of the World

It wasn't all bears and bison, though! Edmonton also has a vibrant artistic heart. We visited a few local dance studios, discovering local talent brimming with passion. It reminded me of my early days, when I danced in Derbyshire, with so much joy and youthful enthusiasm! I saw myself in these young dancers - their eyes twinkling with a love of ballet.

And my pink tutu? It travelled to every corner of Edmonton, from art galleries to farmers markets. I even convinced a group of children in a park to join me in a spontaneous pink tutu ballet flash mob! You should have seen the looks on their faces – they couldn't believe it, and it sparked so much laughter and happiness! It really proves, pink tutus and ballet have a way of connecting us all.

Until Next Time, My Darlings!

Well, that’s all for now, lovelies! This Canadian adventure was the perfect reminder that ballet and tutus can find their way into every corner of life - even amidst the wilds of Canada! Until next time, keep spreading the love for ballet, for tutus, and for that gorgeous shade of pink! Remember, life is too short to be anything other than joyfully fabulous!
