Spalding, A Little Gem of a Town

Blog Post No. 9491

Hello my darlings!

Today, my lovelies, we're going on a delightful journey to Spalding, a charming town nestled in Lincolnshire. The sun is shining, a gentle breeze is whispering through the trees, and the sound of my sparkly, green tutu swishing as I stride along the cobbled streets is a symphony of joy.

Now, let's get this straight. There are no ballet shows happening in Spalding today. No grand opera houses or ballet studios... at least, not that I could find. However, that didn't stop me from bringing a little bit of ballerina magic to this enchanting town!

Spalding is known for its vibrant market, which I have to say was a pure delight. I couldn't resist picking up a beautiful bouquet of pastel pink peonies for my dear Auntie Barbara back in Derbyshire. And what's a day trip without some adorable souvenirs, right? I snagged a little ceramic pig wearing a tutu, because how could I resist? My collection is just starting to grow!

Of course, no journey to Lincolnshire would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Spalding Flower Gardens. It was like stepping into a fairytale. My eyes danced with delight as they beheld vibrant rose gardens bursting with colour, the sweet scent of lavender filling the air, and the playful flitting of butterflies among the blooms.

It felt a bit like being transported to a Monet painting, with a touch of Alice in Wonderland, thanks to my whimsical tutu adding an element of whimsy to the entire scene! As I pirouetted beneath the flowering cherry blossom trees, I felt like a fairy, light as a feather and full of grace.

Honestly, it's quite a paradox – a tiny town with a giant heart, bursting with beauty and history. I have to admit, my initial impression was that it was a bit of a sleepy little place, but after taking a proper look, I was captivated. I found a hidden gem within the centre of town: the Ayscoughfee Hall Museum, an intriguing blend of the old and new. The ancient building housed exhibits on the area's history, and there was even a fascinating collection of costumes from local theatre productions. My inner ballerina was swooning over the elegant gowns, but let’s be honest, my eyes were glued to the beautiful costumes and theatrical dresses!

As always, my faithful steed, my magnificent steed – let’s be honest – my trusty little car, transported me to and fro. But you know me, darling; I just can’t resist the romance of a horse drawn carriage ride now and again. There was something very quaint and charming about a horse carriage taking me along the cobbled streets, surrounded by beautiful blooms. As if I had stepped straight into a period drama. The horses were so elegant, and the whole experience was truly magical.

I had my lunch in a charming café called "The Pink Teacup", which made my little pink-loving heart go pitter-patter. Of course, it wasn’t all afternoon tea and frilly tutus; I also spent some time admiring the impressive local architecture. It truly amazed me. The church steeple of the majestic St Mary and St Nicholas church reaches for the heavens, and I found myself in awe of its magnificence.

Did I mention I brought my favourite vintage binoculars along with me? They were particularly handy as I observed a flock of swallows circling the churchyard, a sight that always delights me. The swallows are such delicate and graceful creatures. They’re a constant reminder that even the smallest creatures can inspire joy and wonder.

A delightful treat in Spalding was the quaint little shop I found tucked away on a side street called "The Whimsical Unicorn." It’s exactly as the name suggests: bursting with quirky crafts and artisan gifts. I found myself tempted by an enchanting unicorn statue, crafted from delicately hand-painted ceramic, but I must resist the urge to collect them all, though my little heart truly wants to.

Now, darling, let's talk about the most important element of my day: fashion! What better way to embrace the countryside than with a twirling tutu, you ask? My green one, of course! This particular one has shimmering sequins and layers of delicate tulle. It feels like a feather-light embrace as I twirl beneath the Lincolnshire sky.

To bring some extra colour to my ensemble, I donned a pale pink silk blouse, adding a touch of feminine elegance to the mix. To complement this, I tied a vibrant, pink ribbon around my waist, making my entire look both sweet and striking. Let's just say that my pink-tutu inspired ensemble turned heads wherever I went. I'm starting to feel a little like a beacon of pink-tutu cheer!

For the evening, I switched things up for a chic dinner. Now, my darlings, I don't want to spoil the surprise of what my next outfit will be. However, it involved a playful mix of sequins, feathers, and a little bit of Parisian elegance - because you know me!

If there’s anything I've learned today, it's that Spalding has a delightful hidden charm – not to be underestimated! Its beauty, in its way, is like the magic of ballet. Graceful yet resilient.

Well, my dears, I must be off now. As the golden sun begins to set, it paints the Lincolnshire skies in glorious hues of orange and purple, a sight as captivating as a ballet performance. But before I bid you adieu, let me remind you - let’s embrace the world with a touch of pink, a swish of a tutu, and a whole lot of grace. Let's make the world a beautiful ballet, one step at a time!

Love,

Emma
