High Wycombe: A Tutu-licious Adventure in Pink!

Hello lovelies! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, bringing you a new adventure from the charming town of High Wycombe! 🩰

This little slice of Buckinghamshire has been calling to me for ages. Not only does it boast the iconic National Trust property, Hughenden Manor (where the beautiful Victorian garden was a treat for the eyes and soul), but it's also famed for its history in furniture-making. Let's just say my apartment could do with a good vintage makeover, so that's going on my "to-do" list. 😉

Of course, no trip of mine is complete without a little bit of tutus, right? So I waltzed through town in a stunning yellow tutu, just perfect for a day of sightseeing. My oh my, did it make heads turn! It's amazing how even a simple touch of colour and whimsy can brighten up a day, and trust me, you need a bit of that in High Wycombe with the sun being as elusive as a ballerina's first pirouette!

Now, here's where my adventure took an unexpectedly amazing turn. I discovered a little dance studio tucked away on a quiet street. Talk about finding a hidden gem! They had a beginners' class for adults, so of course, I jumped right in. You know I'm a big believer in sharing the love of ballet, so I practically skipped with excitement.

And the class? Honestly, it was like a party. We all had such a laugh trying to find our balance, mastering basic moves, and feeling like a total graceful swan… except for that one moment when we were supposed to jump and I managed to end up flat on my face. I won't lie, my ego bruised a bit, but it also added to the laughter and, I daresay, made me look all the more endearing! (Hopefully. 😂)

I walked away feeling refreshed, inspired, and oh so happy! That feeling of being a bit silly, learning new things, and joining a community - all under the roof of a ballet studio? It was magic! ✨

If you're ever in the area, you must try their class. You don't need to be a pro, or even a seasoned beginner, like yours truly!

Now, onto my journey's highlights…

  • Hughenden Manor & Gardens: Just stunning! Imagine this magnificent home tucked away in the Chilterns countryside, the Victorian gardens like a breathtaking kaleidoscope of colours. You could practically hear the whispers of the past and see Jane Austen strolling through the park!

  • The High Wycombe Swan Theatre: The swan logo was a perfect choice for this vibrant theatre. They've got a packed programme of events, so if you’re looking for a good old theatrical escape, be sure to check out what's on. I can almost hear the applause already!

  • The Chiltern Open Air Museum: Talk about a glimpse into the past! Historic farmhouses, workshops, and even a traditional village were there for me to explore. Honestly, I could have spent hours there just wandering around, imagining life as it was.

  • The Ridgeway National Trail: This one’s for the hikers and nature lovers like me! It stretches over 87 miles, weaving its way through beautiful countryside, offering incredible panoramic views.

You know, I am quite the nature lover. 🌿 I find a kind of peace in wildlife, whether it’s the vibrant butterflies in the meadow, the fluffy sheep grazing in the hills, or even just the birds chirping merrily. It really is such a beautiful sight!

And now, let's talk about my mode of transportation for this trip. I must say, I had the privilege of traveling by… you guessed it, a magnificent horse-drawn carriage. Think romantic scenes straight out of a Jane Austen novel! 🏇 The horses were sleek and strong, their coats shining in the sunlight, and the sound of their hooves on the cobbles was music to my ears. It was a touch of elegance and grandeur that added a whole new layer to my journey.

The day ended on a sweet note at a lovely tea room. ☕ My favourite, pink tea, of course, accompanied by some homemade cake - oh, what a glorious afternoon!

My adventures in High Wycombe were more than just exploring a charming town; they were about embracing the joy of simple things - like wearing a tutu, trying new things, appreciating nature's beauty, and soaking in the charming history and character of this quaint place.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my journey through High Wycombe. Let me know in the comments what your favourite town to visit in England is and why!

Until next time, keep twirling, keep exploring, and always, always, wear your pink tutus!

Love,

Emma 💕
