Hey darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the bustling streets of Streatham, south London. Now, you might think, āEmma, Streatham? Is that really where your tutu travels take you?ā And to that, I say, ABSOLUTELY!
I believe in finding magic in the everyday. And trust me, a splash of pink tulle in a town like Streatham can truly turn heads. Plus, there's a delightful ballet studio there, just a skip and a hop from Streatham Common, and you all know how much I love exploring the hidden gems of the ballet world!
Speaking of magic, how else do you think I got to London today? Not your ordinary, everyday train journey, oh no! This time, I rode in style with a rather splendid group of horses! Now, you may not think horses and tutus are the most obvious combination, but they're both a bit magical, donāt you think? There was something truly magical about trotting through the Derbyshire countryside with the wind whipping my pink tulle, leaving a trail of pink and happiness behind. It was almost like I was a ballet dancer, pirouetting across the landscape.
Speaking of magicalā¦ today's tutu was a real dream. I was sporting a custom-made number with a cascade of hand-sewn pink ostrich feathers! It was the perfect ātutu-ing around townā piece, because, you know, when you're dressed like a pink dream, people can't help but notice. They even let me on the tube with it! Imagine that. (Not that itās particularly comfortable getting onto a busy, crowded London train when your tutuās trailing feathers threaten to catch on the railingsā¦) I just knew it would be the perfect way to draw a crowd and share my pink, tutued-up love for all things ballet.
First stop: the ballet studio! Oh my goodness! What a delight. This was definitely more "barre and beat" than your usual stuffy dance academy. I even got to join in with a drop-in class. You would think Iād know every step but, being surrounded by those delightful students, it just rekindled my own ballet passion. Everyone was so encouraging, and I felt like a little girl again. We danced, we laughed, we sweat. It was the best kind of ballet bliss! And, of course, the tutu went down a treat! There were little eyes shining with excitement and smiles blooming as we went through our ballet routine. You know that infectious feeling of joy you get when someone's caught up in a shared passion? Yeah, it was pure bliss!
After all that dancing, it was time to explore the Streatham charm. I went for a delightful stroll through the vibrant, flower-filled market, where I snagged a fabulous pink ribbon to add to my tutu, just to make sure my look stayed super dreamy. There were rows of gorgeous colourful stalls bursting with fresh flowers, cheeses and colourful artisanal crafts ā I even bought a tiny knitted pink ballerina as a souvenir for my friend's little girl. You see, this pink tutu movement is spreading!
Itās wonderful seeing this growing interest in dance, particularly in children. It is such a gift to see little eyes light up when they discover the wonder of ballet. Perhaps a pink tutu will inspire their imagination, even if just for a little while, just like it did mine when I was just a little girl, wandering through the streets of my home town in Derbyshire.
Now, let me tell you a little secret. As I wandered around Streatham, something really cool happened. I met a little girl with pigtails and a curious stare. She pointed to my tutu and asked with shining eyes, "Are you a ballerina?" My heart swelled!
"Why yes, I am,ā I said. And that's when her face erupted into the biggest, most beautiful, blushing, pink smile you ever did see! And she then took one bold step forward and asked me, "Can I touch your tutu?" I said "of course!" And that, darlings, is what itās all about!
Sharing this passion, encouraging that little spark of curiosity ā this is how we build a world where ballet isn't a niche interest but something everyone enjoys and embraces.
And it all starts with a little bit of pink.
