Hello my lovely Tutu-Twirlers! Emma here, reporting live from the bustling streets of North Shields. You wouldn't believe the adventures I've had today! But first, let's talk colour - cyan, my darlings, cyan!
I don't usually wear this colour on stage, or even on a daily basis for that matter. Pink is my heart and soul, but a change is as good as a holiday, right? And honestly, my cyan tulle tutu with the diamanté detailing just sparkles in the sunshine! Today's look was inspired by the wild, windy coastal scene of North Shields. It's a little bit daring, a little bit nautical, and very much me.
The journey itself was an adventure in itself. No, no, I didn't take a horse! The railways are calling this week. The carriage was packed with fellow dancers from Derbyshire (just like me!), and the train journey up to the North East was an absolute hoot! We talked ballet moves, sang show tunes, and even attempted a mini-performance right in the middle of the carriage. Thankfully, everyone was a good sport!
Arriving in North Shields was like stepping into a fairytale! The salty air kissed my cheeks, the sound of seagulls calling filled the air, and the vibrant, seaside town was full of life and character. The moment I saw the quaint fishing boats bobbing on the harbour, I knew this would be a special day!
My main reason for being here? To experience the local ballet school. Now, let's be honest, every dancer loves a little bit of learning, a bit of pushing the boundaries of our technique. And believe me, the students here are absolutely fantastic! Their energy, passion, and sheer joy for ballet was contagious, making my heart do a little pirouette.
We started with some basic warm-ups, stretches that pushed my limbs to new limits, and even had a few laughs about some of the older positions I remember learning back in the day. It's amazing how some techniques remain the same but then again, it’s the dedication of each teacher and dancer that make a dance school as great as this. The air buzzed with positivity, and their joy for dance was an inspiration. The dedication of their teacher was heartwarming too – I remember that same fierce passion when I was training and I was immediately transported back to those heady, exciting days!
Afternoon in the Theatre
The highlight of my day was definitely attending a fantastic ballet production in a beautiful local theatre. Now, you know me - a ballet performance is like my guilty pleasure, something that transports me to another realm of beauty and grace. The theatre itself had so much character, with its velvet curtains, high ceilings, and the soft glow of the stage lights. It's just magical, darling!
This particular ballet piece was set to a beautifully haunting musical score. I'm no musical expert, but it just touched something deep within me - reminding me why ballet is my absolute passion. I love how it combines storytelling, physical expression, and raw emotion into one. The performers were absolutely brilliant - every pirouette, every arabesque, every jeté, they all radiated precision and passion. I could feel the emotions and stories they were portraying - I was completely captivated.
Dinner with the locals:
Of course, after a thrilling ballet performance, the perfect antidote is a delicious meal! We stopped at a charming little bistro that boasted a "fish of the day" special. My lovely companion suggested that we each pick something from the menu that was "pink" themed. I love that she always gets into my themes! How could we resist? Pink salmon for me and the cutest little strawberry tart with pink-hued icing, a decadent indulgence to finish the evening! And of course, with a pink cocktail, a raspberry martini to be precise! The ambiance was utterly delightful, the food delicious and the company inspiring. The local townsfolk are just lovely. It's nice to be away from the big cities sometimes, don’t you think? It’s so much about experiencing the quieter beauty of life and the lovely little things.
North Shields, you have stolen a piece of my heart.
Until next time, my darlings, remember: wear your tutu, live your dreams, and let the magic of ballet inspire you everyday.
XOXO Emma
