Hey, darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, reporting live from the charming town of Hitchin. I’m so excited to be sharing today’s adventures with you - I’m on a mission to bring the magic of ballet and the power of pink to every corner of the UK, and Hitchin just called out to me like a beautiful swan lake! 🦢💖
The journey here was a joy, of course. I opted for a vintage train carriage, complete with plush velvet seats and a little window to peer out of. It reminded me of a scene from one of my favourite ballet films - that sense of timeless elegance, like stepping out of a vintage fashion magazine! And the train journey was the perfect chance to brush up on some of my ballet exercises, ahem, 'ballet stretches' in my fuchsia-hued leggings, of course! (Think: grand jeté on the moving train...don't tell the conductor.) 🤫
As soon as I arrived in Hitchin, I felt the undeniable charm of the place. Quaint shops lined the cobbled streets, and the air was buzzing with a sense of community. I couldn't resist grabbing a cheeky little ice cream from a local ice cream van, (strawberry, naturally, in my favourite pink cone!) and admiring the beautiful wildflowers growing in the little park next to the train station. Did I tell you? Wildflowers are my absolute favourite – a kaleidoscope of colour in nature’s tutu! 🌸
My first stop was Hitchin Museum, which holds treasures from the area’s fascinating history. It’s always amazing to me to see the way that even in the smallest places, the echoes of the past are alive and kicking! And you can be sure I struck a pose in front of a few vintage portraits - who needs the ballet barre when you’ve got history on your side?
My heart really took a flutter, however, when I visited the Hitchin Town Hall – its grand facade was straight out of a classical ballet performance, and I just HAD to do a little twirl in its grand, echoing courtyard. Ballet really comes alive in places like this - imagine all the beautiful dances and ballets they’ve witnessed over the years! 🩰
But, what truly captured my ballet-loving heart was a visit to the Hitchin Lavender Fields! The lavender was in full bloom, painting the countryside with breathtaking lilac hues. It was like stepping into a scene from ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, only this time, the princess was wearing a pink tutu and doing some beautiful, slow-motion pirouettes in the middle of the field! 💜
You know how much I love wildlife, so I was in heaven! The air was abuzz with butterflies and bumblebees, and there were even a few fluffy bunnies hopping through the lavender bushes! Talk about ‘bunny-tastic!’ It just reinforces the feeling of nature's beauty and magic – how much that connects to the elegance of ballet! ✨
Of course, no ballet-lover can visit Hitchin without checking out the famous ballet-inspired bakery, “The Dance of Delights”. Oh, the smells and sights of those handcrafted pastries! I was absolutely smitten with a decadent macaron tower. Talk about a feast for the eyes AND the stomach! Honestly, I might just open my own pink-tutu-themed bakery someday! 🤔
And, wouldn’t you know it, my trip to Hitchin wasn’t complete without some actual ballet fun! I discovered an amazing ballet school called "Hitchin Ballet Academy". They offer everything from classical ballet to street ballet, and even jazz classes! The owner was such a darling - she was absolutely thrilled to see my pink tutu, and she even invited me to participate in a beginner's ballet class! It was hilarious! You’d think a professional ballerina could actually nail an ‘Arabesque’…but alas, even I had a little chuckle at myself! 🤣
Overall, this trip to Hitchin has been simply delightful! I loved every moment – from exploring the cobbled streets, savouring delicious local pastries, twirling amongst the lavender, to my beginner ballet lesson (oops, let’s not tell anyone)! It really reinforces why I’m so passionate about travelling with a pink tutu! 💖
And hey, just like my favourite pink tutus are not one-size-fits-all, every place you visit holds its own charm and special energy. You can find joy and a reason to dance, whether it's exploring historical treasures, breathing in the sweet aroma of lavender, or simply admiring the butterflies in a little park! So don't forget: put on your best smile, slip on a pink tutu, and let your inner ballerina explore! 🌸
Until next time, keep dancing, darling,
Emma xoxo
