Hello, lovelies! Itās Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the heart of Lincolnshire!
Oh, how I adore a good train journey! It's always the perfect time to catch up on my ballet book and indulge in a spot of daydreaming (usually involving a particularly dashing prince, of course!). My arrival in Spalding was, dare I say, absolutely charming! I always say, thereās no place like a quaint English market town, particularly when the sunshine is shining and the air is filled with the gentle rustle of the wind in the nearby fens.
But of course, it wasnāt just the quaint charm that brought me to Spalding. I had a very specific purpose: tutu time! This town holds a special place in my heart ā it was where I first truly fell in love with the magic of ballet. My Nana used to bring me to see the travelling ballet troupes at the town hall, and those childhood memories still hold a special warmth.
Now, my dearest readers, you all know I adore a classic pink tutu ā itās a quintessential look for any ballet enthusiast, and one that always evokes a sense of joyful wonder. However, for my visit to Spalding, I decided to experiment a little! Yes, you heard it right! I'm embracing the emerald green! I've paired a gorgeous lime green tutu with a sparkling, crystal-studded bodice that has me feeling like a princess fresh out of a fairytale. (The matching emerald green earrings and sparkly shoes were an absolute must, obviously!). I've been absolutely in love with this colour lately! It evokes the springtime greenery of the Fens and makes me feel like Iām twirling amongst a blooming rose garden!
Speaking of blooming rose gardensā¦ my day began with a delightful stroll through the Spalding Flower Parade! Imagine this ā an entire town celebrating all things floral! There were elaborate floats, brightly-coloured costumes, and a truly spectacular array of blossoming flowers in every colour imaginable! I could have happily lost myself in the vibrancy and spectacle for hours on end.
It's amazing how one personās passion can transform an entire community, and that's exactly what makes Spalding so special. It was here I met a truly extraordinary woman, a retired teacher named Martha, who was volunteering with a community arts group. Martha's a true beacon of artistic inspiration in the town. Her love of ballet ā and the colour pink! ā has inspired generations of young people. Martha even managed to find me a vintage, pink, sparkly tutu with a single rosebud embellishment on the skirt! She assured me it was her very own from her dancing days, and I couldnāt possibly have been more thrilled!
After an absolutely enchanting day in the Fens, my adventure culminated at the "Spirit of the Fens" Theatre ā home to Spalding's beloved ballet troupe. It was here that I finally realised how important this small town has been in my journey as a dancer.
Their production of āGiselleā was just spectacular. From the heart-wrenching tragedy to the captivating choreography, I was utterly transfixed!
But, the true magic began after the performance. There was an audience participation session with the performers! And to my absolute delight, I got to have a go at some basic ballet steps with one of the professional dancers! Honestly, thereās no feeling quite like it - a moment of pure, unadulterated joy! I felt like a little girl again, and the smiles on the faces of the children present made it clear I wasnāt the only one.
And for a little extra excitement, my train back to Derbyshire happened to be pulling a horse box! I caught a glimpse of the horse within as it gracefully sauntered around the stable, just like a real ballet dancer. I was enthralled.
To end this blog post on a whimsical note, Iāll be keeping you updated on my travels with more adventures! Thereās no better way to fuel my love for ballet than to see it flourish in places Iāve never been before. As I always say, the journey of a dancer is best travelled with a touch of sparkle, a sprinkle of joy, and an endless supply of pink tutus (or, of course, a vibrant green one for a little variety). Until next time, darling readers, embrace the ballet magic!
