Hello my gorgeous darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu-loving, ballet-obsessed blogger, writing to you from the charming town of Braintree. Now, I know what you're thinking - Braintree?! Not exactly the first place that springs to mind when you think of ballet, right? But trust me, this place has some real hidden gems! And besides, who needs a grand Parisian opera house when you can twirl through life with a big, beautiful pink tutu and a smile as bright as a ballerina's spotlight? 😉
This little town in Essex has a sweet, nostalgic feel to it, just like a well-worn ballet shoe. It's all quaint shops and cobblestone streets, with just the right amount of vintage charm. You could say it's a little bit of old-world England, perfect for someone like me who dreams of fairytale carriages and a dash of elegance, but is just as happy with a pair of sensible flat shoes and a big helping of afternoon tea! 🍰
Now, you've all seen my Instagram feed flooded with pictures of glorious ballet classes and shows, and trust me, this little town doesn't disappoint! There's a fantastic dance academy here, just a stone's throw from my lovely bed & breakfast (yes, you guessed it, the room has a ballet-themed colour scheme!), offering everything from classical ballet to hip hop. Let's just say my legs have been putting in some serious overtime since arriving, but I'm loving it!
Tutu Time: The Pink Perfection Edition
One thing that I always bring with me, wherever I go, is a good selection of tutus. My motto? There's no such thing as too many tutus! You could say my suitcase is like a miniature ballerina boutique.
And for this particular adventure, I've been sporting a gorgeous pink number that I found tucked away in a little antique shop back in Derbyshire (oh, my home county, how I miss thee!). It's a vintage beauty, with layers of tulle so light and fluffy, it's almost like dancing on clouds! This tutu is pure nostalgia and grace, a reminder of the simpler, magical times when I dreamt of dancing on stage, a little pink fairy among the stars. 🌠
Braintree Beyond Ballet:
But it's not all pirouettes and pliés, my friends. This week, I've been embracing all the beauty that Braintree has to offer, venturing beyond the dance studios and into the wider world. A trip to the local farmers' market was a feast for the senses – think juicy strawberries, earthy vegetables, and the smell of freshly baked bread, enough to make even the most disciplined ballerina weak at the knees!
And wouldn't you know it, a chance encounter led me to a wildlife sanctuary nestled just outside of town. There I met an amazing volunteer who showed me some truly majestic creatures. From red deer with antlers that looked like ancient kings' crowns, to graceful swans with necks like ballet dancers' poses, there was a sense of awe-inspiring beauty all around.
Oh, and you just HAVE to see the lavender fields! The air is perfumed with its fragrant scent, and the rows of purple blooms look like a dream come true. I found myself snapping a thousand pictures, hoping to capture that ethereal purple glow. It's just another reason why this town has my heart, reminding me that life is a beautiful journey filled with a little bit of magic and a lot of love. 💜
Why Pink Is Always Perfect
So, you might be wondering why I’m obsessed with pink. The colour pink holds a special place in my heart, it reminds me of sunshine, smiles and sweet dreams. It’s a colour that makes me feel like a princess, ready to conquer the world one twirl at a time. There’s an innocence, a joyfulness to pink, that somehow reminds us of the simple pleasures in life. It’s the colour of childhood wonder, of ballerina dreams and fairy tales waiting to be told.

Listen, my friends, there’s magic in every twirl, every plié, every jump. Don’t be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina. Put on your favourite tutu, dance in your living room, and let the world disappear as you float in a world of your own creation. It’s liberating, empowering and truly beautiful.
