Hello my darlings! Today's post is a bit of a whirlwind! Imagine, if you will, me - your very own pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed travel blogger - embarking on a day trip from my beloved Derbyshire to the charming town of Ashton. I can already hear the collective gasp, "Ashton?! What's in Ashton?"
Well, dear reader, Ashton may not have the bright lights of London, but it holds a certain charm. You see, Ashton is a haven for those who appreciate a bit of tranquility. It's a town where the pace of life slows, where the cobblestone streets beckon you to wander, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air.
But enough about Ashton! You know me, I’m always on the lookout for a bargain, a new adventure, or just a chance to unleash my inner ballerina!
My day started in a whirlwind of tulle and excitement. You see, I recently snagged a totally adorable pink tutu for a steal - £5.99 at a vintage store! It's just the right shade of pale pink, with layers upon layers of delicate netting, and I'm convinced it's going to be the perfect addition to my wardrobe (which, let's face it, is overflowing with pink tutus).
Armed with my new tutu, a comfy pair of trainers (I know, shocking, but sometimes practical triumphs over fabulous!), and a cheeky smile, I set off towards the train station. It was a beautiful morning, and as the train rattled through the countryside, the lush green fields seemed to wave at me, whispering stories of far-off lands.
Ashton: A Day Filled With Delight
Once I arrived in Ashton, I was greeted by a quaint little market bustling with locals. You know, the kind of place where they have stalls selling everything from homemade jam to hand-knitted sweaters. The aroma of freshly baked goods led me to a charming café called "The Little Teapot," where I indulged in a delightful slice of raspberry and lemon cake - the perfect accompaniment to a pot of strong, fragrant tea.
After my delicious treat, I embarked on a mini adventure – a wander down the charming streets of Ashton. Cobbled streets, picturesque houses with gardens bursting with colour, independent boutiques displaying beautiful wares - Ashton really is a treasure trove of delights.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. "Emma, what does Ashton have to do with ballet?" Well, you’d be surprised. Hidden away in the back of an old bookshop, I found a small but well-stocked collection of ballet DVDs! It seems the Ashton Library hosts a regular film night with ballet classics. This little find had me dancing for joy (internally, of course - I wouldn't want to scare the other customers).
But Ashton's true charm lies in the little things: the friendly shopkeepers, the chatter of locals enjoying a pint at the local pub, the warmth and friendliness of a town that has managed to preserve its soul.
A Tutu Tale
My new pink tutu got more than its fair share of compliments. Even the old man who sells fresh vegetables from a little stall outside the library (apparently Ashton locals adore their local vegetables - just like me!) said "That’s a right fancy tutu!" (A big thumbs-up to Ashton for being so accepting and friendly.) I think a pink tutu can brighten even the most gloomy day.
It turns out I'm not the only pink tutu devotee. On the train home, a little girl on her way to a dance class kept staring at my tutu with a big smile. So, being the tutu expert I am, I explained how I learned to do a tour in a tutu like hers (though I might not actually be able to do it, but you never know, it might come back to me.)
Wildlife in the Heart of England
Now, a pink tutu and ballet is one thing, but you also know my other passion? Nature and wildlife. I wasn't about to let this little journey be all about pink tulle, so, armed with my binoculars (you know I always have them handy - never know when a deer will cross your path!), I went on a little exploration. Ashton, though a small town, has a charming nature reserve called the “Ashton Meadows." It’s full of beautiful woodland, perfect for spotting our native birds - I spotted a rare kingfisher in the nearby stream!
I even managed to snap a few beautiful photos for my Insta account. Ashton really is full of surprises!
Back to Derbyshire, and a Bit of Pink-Tutu Reflection
And as I made my way back to Derbyshire, the sun setting over the rolling green hills, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment. I realized that Ashton, with its small-town charm and a secret love for ballet, had stolen a piece of my heart. It’s proof that beauty can be found even in the most unexpected of places.
A pint of cider at the local pub back home, nestled in the arms of the Derbyshire countryside, felt more special than ever, and so did my beautiful pink tutu - it truly was a day filled with joy, a pink tutu adventure that made me appreciate the simplicity and the unexpected adventures life offers.
So, my fellow tutu-lovers, don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and embrace the unknown. Whether it’s Ashton, a nearby town, a faraway country, or a different kind of adventure, embrace the world with a pink tutu and a heart full of joy.
Until next time, happy dancing, happy travelling, and never, ever underestimate the power of a pink tutu!
Love,
Emma
