Hey gorgeous, how are you? I’m Emma, a Derbyshire gal with a serious case of tutu fever and a mission to get the world twirling in pink. Today, we’re off on a ballet adventure to Wishaw, a town nestled in the Scottish Borders, with a little bit of American tutu flair thrown in for good measure!
Let’s start with the train journey - that classic, scenic way to travel, right? It felt like I was stepping out of a Jane Austen novel as we glided through the rolling countryside. (No, not actually in a carriage, ha!) But imagine me, a little rosy cheeked from the chill, bundled up in a cozy, floral scarf and, of course, a fluffy pink tutu peeking out beneath a chic pea coat! It was quite the scene.
Anyway, arriving at Wishaw station, the air was buzzing with anticipation. The sound of the station clock chiming, followed by the rumble of a passing train - oh, I could almost hear the music from the ballet already!
This visit was extra special because it involved horses. Yes, you read that right! A horse! The stars were aligning for me – ballet, beautiful landscapes, and a magnificent steed. After a little bit of browsing, I found the perfect partner: a stunning, chestnut horse with the most soulful eyes. I must confess, it took a moment to remember that we’re on a ballet mission, because that ride was truly exhilarating! ?✨
The horse carried me towards a local theater, with its beautiful brickwork and welcoming atmosphere. It looked straight out of a Victorian ballet poster - charming and inviting.
This week, my blog theme is "Americana" because, darlings, I'm embracing the vibrancy and flair of the US. And what's more "American" than an ultra-dramatic tutu?! Well, okay, that was just my own American dream-style outfit, made in honor of a particularly show-stopping "Nutcracker" performance that's taking place in Wisconsin this winter (I might be making a little trip, hush, hush, shhh!).
As I strutted into the theater, the scent of warm popcorn and fresh linen welcomed me, like a gentle invitation to step into a world of wonder. This is where the "ballet and life parallels" conversation takes center stage. Seeing so many individuals come together in the shared experience of ballet…it was truly touching.
Now, I need to tell you about the show, darlings, it was spectacular. From the way the dancers flowed across the stage in a breathtaking blend of power and elegance to the dramatic costumes - oh, my goodness! My little American dream tutu had nothing on the creations they wore! There was one tutu, so opulent with layers of fabric and glitter that I gasped - it was like watching a living dream. But this wasn’t about showing off, this was artistry. Pure beauty in motion. The choreography, inspired by a Shakespeare play, was so intricately woven into the music…you could literally feel the emotions building like a crescendo, culminating in a heart-wrenching, unforgettable climax.
That night, after the show, I went to bed, dreaming of tutus, dancing, and all those marvelous horses, a dreamy tapestry woven by my ballet adventures in Wishaw.
But here's a little something to add to your ballet bucket list: If you ever find yourself in Wishaw, don’t miss a trip to the gorgeous park, filled with sprawling lawns and a peaceful little stream. It's the perfect place for a ballet-themed picnic with your besties. Imagine, twirling around in our favourite tutus under the Scottish skies, laughter echoing through the park... I almost forgot to mention, there's also a fabulous bakery where you can get all the sugar and pastries your heart desires – let’s be honest, who needs champagne when you’ve got perfectly flaky croissants!
That’s it for today, loves! Until next time, may your lives be filled with sunshine, laughter, and maybe even a little tutu magic!
Oh, and before I go - Remember, darling, my goal isn’t just about tutus (though, they’re pretty darn wonderful!). It’s about igniting passion for the beauty and magic of dance. So, embrace your inner ballerina and get twirling. You never know, you might even find your own adventure just waiting for you around the corner. ? ?
Big Pink Love,
Emma
