Hello lovelies! It's Emma, your resident pink-tutu-clad adventurer, and I'm back with a blog post from the most charming corner of London – Highbury! I've just had the most wonderful weekend, filled with tutus, train rides, and a sprinkle of magic.
I've always dreamt of visiting Highbury, you know, for all those romantic Emily Dickinson-esque reasons. But this trip was all about the ballet! It was for a weekend workshop, the perfect mix of training, performance, and just general ballet bliss. Imagine a room filled with passionate dancers, the rhythmic thrum of piano music, and the whisper of tutus brushing the floor – pure delight!
Oh, I've been living in this gorgeous, floaty Italian tutu. I discovered it tucked away in a charming shop in Nottingham, and I just knew it was meant for Highbury. It's silk and velvet, a delightful mix of dusky pinks and dusky rose, perfect for a weekend in the English countryside. It's been swishing and swirling with me all weekend, practically twirling itself!
And you know what? It even made it onto the stage! The workshop ended with a little performance, where we all danced to our hearts' content. I danced a short solo – a little whimsical, a little fiery – and it just felt magical, a bit like stepping into one of my favorite fairy tales.
You know I love a good train journey, and getting to Highbury was pure magic! The windows framed fields of amber and emerald, punctuated with little cottages, and even a flock of graceful swans gliding over a clear, silver stream. It was like stepping into a watercolour painting, you know, all soft hues and gentle curves. And then, a glorious, pink sunset erupted on the horizon. Talk about an awe-inspiring prelude to my ballet adventures!
Now, Highbury itself is just so charming. I love how it feels steeped in history, yet so alive and bustling. I wandered through the narrow streets, taking in the sights, scents, and sounds – a flower stall with fragrant blooms, the gentle clatter of an old tea shop's cups, and the low, sweet notes of a street musician's guitar. And let's not forget the amazing shops, crammed full of treasures and delights! I indulged in a little bit of retail therapy, grabbing a new pair of ballet slippers (always a good thing to have, right?) and a stunning hand-painted, floral broach. It'll look divine pinned onto a simple black top – maybe for our next night out at the ballet!
On Saturday night, after a truly satisfying rehearsal session, we had a special treat – a performance by the world-renowned Ballet Rambert! The theatre itself was beautiful, all rich mahogany and golden accents, and the stage glowed with the magic of live performance. I even managed to snag a quick chat with one of the dancers after the show, and I must say, they were incredibly kind and encouraging! They’re giving a talk tomorrow, I just hope I get the chance to ask all my burning questions about the world of professional dance!
This weekend was truly a gift. It reminded me of the beauty of sharing a love for ballet with other passionate souls. And you know what? It also inspired me to try a brand new style – lyrical jazz. The grace, the fluidity, the emotion... I think it’s the perfect dance style to add to my repertoire.
But wait! It wasn't just ballet this weekend. The beautiful green space behind the theatre was a birdwatcher's paradise. Imagine watching the delicate flight of a hawk soaring through the sky! And even spotting a pair of owls - so majestic, so still, their eyes shining like emerald stones. It truly was magical!
Highbury, you truly captured my heart, and I already miss you. I'm already dreaming of my next visit! Maybe I'll try horseback riding this time – I'm sure Highbury is full of enchanting paths and meadows waiting to be explored.
Remember lovelies, wear your tutu with pride! And if you can't find the time to put on your own tutu, join me for a ballet class, watch a live performance, or simply put on a movie with a ballerina storyline! And don’t forget to share your stories with me - send a message or leave a comment!
Sending you all the pink and twirly goodness, Emma
