It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-loving blogger, and guess what? I'm off on a little adventure today! I'm hopping on a train to the enchanting town of Consett in County Durham, armed with my trusty fluffy pink tutu (the one with the sparkly diamantes!) and a whole lotta enthusiasm.
You see, Consett is calling out to me – it's home to the fabulous Consett Community Theatre and a whole heap of balletic adventures waiting to be discovered. Can you picture it? My tutu twirling amidst the backdrop of the industrial history that defines this lovely little town – just pure magic!
I’m getting myself all ready to hit the streets, check out the scene, and maybe even find some gorgeous ballet inspiration. Speaking of, I am SO excited to announce a fab competition to celebrate my visit!

Back to Consett… Before we get down to the nitty-gritty of the ballet bits, let's have a little chat about getting here! The journey by train from Derbyshire has been a treat - a window seat and a fluffy cloud of a pink scarf have kept me comfy and cosy.
Have I mentioned how much I love train travel? It's just so magical - all the views, the gentle rocking, the quiet contemplation… it makes me feel like I'm on a movie set! Although, my dear little cat, Mittens, decided I needed her by my side this morning, and I swear, she's gone through more hairballs on the train than I have. But hey, gotta love my furry bestie!
Arriving in Consett, the air feels crisp and clean, the cobblestone streets charming, and the local shops are full of little treasures – antiques, independent booksellers, quaint tea rooms. My heart's skipping a beat just taking it all in! It’s such a beautiful mix of modern and traditional architecture that somehow makes it feel utterly charming and a bit magical – definitely a must-see for any traveller!
Speaking of charming, the local folk I've met have been SO warm and welcoming, always ready to share their knowledge about this part of County Durham. My favourite so far has to be the lovely lady in the bakery who insisted on making me try her 'Pink Cloud Cake' – a delicate sponge, lightly flavoured with lavender, layered with a swirl of white frosting, topped with edible sprinkles that resembled little ballet shoes! Can't wait to write about this incredible discovery in my 'Emma’s Edible Adventures' post next week!
Now, on to the reason for my trip – to immerse myself in the enchanting world of dance! The Consett Community Theatre is a hidden gem! I'm blown away by its size, with enough space to hold a proper stage production. I'm bursting with anticipation to experience what's on offer. They've got a diverse line-up, from traditional ballet classics to contemporary pieces and even a ballet inspired by the mining history of Consett! How fascinating is that?
My visit coincides with their performance of "The Nutcracker." A classic tale, full of beauty, whimsy and magic – my perfect night out! The music, the costumes, the choreography... it all promises to be breathtaking, and my heart's already soaring with the thought of it all. I have a feeling that my love for the performing arts, combined with Consett’s stunning setting, will result in an incredible night for everyone involved.
I'm planning on wearing my most dazzling pink tutu, and a shimmering silver sequined top. I might even get brave and don a feather boa – it's all about that showstopping moment, darling! A little glitz and glamour, right? It's Consett, after all! I'm planning on taking loads of photos and even a little video to capture the magic. The theatre experience is always so captivating, but honestly, the best part for me is seeing people experience their own joy and excitement from dancing. It reminds me of the beautiful moments I share in ballet classes - the grace, the artistry, the strength, the joy – all on full display! And don't even get me started on the tutu twirling – pure, blissful happiness. I even saw a street performer in Consett's main square doing ballet-inspired moves - and the energy that flowed between him and the onlookers was infectious! I hope to start my own ballet club here - just wait for the 'Pink Tutu Troupe'!
Oh, I also want to say a big thank you to all the people who made this journey possible, including the kind train driver who gave me the prettiest pink wildflower that I’m drying under my pillow. It's all these tiny touches that make the whole experience magical!
Consett – you’ve got me all starry-eyed, and my heart's full of pink tutus, shimmering stage lights, and all the happy dancing that comes with them. You’ll be seeing a lot of me in the coming weeks, darling! But for now, I’m off to explore some local wildlife – maybe a deer in a tutu or two – you know, just keepin' it fabulous.
