Portsmouth: Pink Power and Pirouettes! ??

Hello my darling dears! It’s Emma here, your pink tutu-loving ballerina extraordinaire, and it's time for another whirlwind adventure. Today's post? A sassy trip to Portsmouth, the vibrant port city with its historic dockyards, stunning views and surprisingly wonderful ballet scene!

Post Number 11097 (Gotta keep track, darlings!)

A Journey by Train and... A Horse?!

I kicked off my Portsmouth escapade in the most glamorous way imaginable – a luxurious train journey! I mean, how can you not love the plush seats, the clinking of teacups, and the ever-changing landscapes whipping by the window? Plus, I squeezed in some stretches, practiced some ballet moves, and, of course, wore my lucky pink tutu – a delicate blush this time, perfect for a day of exploration.

But before I even reached Portsmouth station, I had the most adorable surprise – a carriage pulled by a majestic white horse awaited me! Now, you might think I'm a bit dramatic, but riding a horse through the countryside on the way to a seaside city was truly a fairy tale experience! (And yes, my pink tutu stayed on, just barely catching the wind).

Ballet Buzz at the Portsmouth Coliseum

Of course, the main purpose of my journey was ballet! Portsmouth Coliseum boasts a grand, Victorian-era theater that's just begging for a bit of graceful storytelling. And my, what storytelling they had! A delightful evening performance of Swan Lake brought out the most elegant ballerinas and the most imposing black swans. There’s something magical about being surrounded by a vibrant, energetic crowd, all there to witness the beauty and power of ballet. I even caught myself mouthing the dialogue – a ballet enthusiast’s habit I confess!

Coastal Charms and Wildlife Wonders

No visit to Portsmouth would be complete without exploring its charming waterfront. From the historic ships to the sprawling views of the English Channel, the harbour has a captivating atmosphere. I took a leisurely stroll along the marina, admiring the gleaming yachts and listening to the gentle murmur of the tide. And of course, no visit to a seaside town would be complete without a stop for delicious fish and chips! (This time, the pink tutu had to come off. Don't want to get crumbs everywhere!)

And what’s more charming than a seagull? This time, I discovered a family of puffins - oh, the adorableness! They looked so silly and happy bobbing around on the water and I found myself squealing in delight! (To be honest, I've never seen puffins before and I was completely in awe. They were even cuter in real life than they look on TV.)

Spreading Pink Tutu Power

I think the highlight of the entire trip was bumping into a lovely local ballet school, Portsmouth Performing Arts Academy. They’re a charming school tucked away in a quiet street. Their students’ passion for ballet truly inspired me, and I even managed to sneak in a couple of quick lessons myself, (pink tutu, of course!). The atmosphere there was electric. I chatted with the students about everything from pirouettes to pointe shoes, sharing my own ballet journey, which got a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" from the enthusiastic youngsters! I was in my element - inspiring future ballet dancers is truly my heart's delight!

I had the joy of introducing these bright, young, stars to "pink tutu power” which was an absolute blast! Imagine a whole school of talented students in glorious, swirling pink! It's the kind of beautiful image I'll treasure forever.

Time for Tea & Tutus

Portsmouth had more in store for me, including a delightful tea time at a charming cafe tucked away on a cobblestone side street. The delicate finger sandwiches and pastries were divine, and it wouldn’t be complete without a glass of bubbly to make the moment even more exquisite!

And to continue this most enchanting journey, I decided to finish my visit in style - a grand farewell performance by the city's very own "Pink Tutu Project!" Now, if that's not a whimsical and inspiring name, I don't know what is!

Their show was a magnificent tribute to all things pink and ballet, and even incorporated elements of ballet street - the modern fusion of classical ballet and urban dance moves that has captured the attention of dancers worldwide. It was a truly captivating, breathtaking performance. I couldn’t help but get swept away by the joyous energy, the talent and the playful creativity that spilled from the stage.

Ending with a Pink Twist

Portsmouth truly captured my heart with its unique mix of history, coastal charm, and lively ballet spirit. As I boarded my train back to Derbyshire (with a slight pink-tutu-induced shimmer in my hair, no doubt!), I realised just how special this trip had been.

You know what? Portsmouth is an amazing city, not just for the history buffs and seaside lovers, but also for its commitment to ballet! Portsmouth is, without a doubt, a hidden ballet gem waiting to be discovered!

So, darling dears, my next travel destination? Who knows! It could be Paris, London, maybe even Vienna - with pink tutu in tow, of course!

Until my next journey, keep your pink tutus sparkling!

With much love and pirouettes,

Emma x ??
