Oh my darlings, how's everyone doing? My head is still spinning from the most fabulous week ever! Last week was dedicated to all things pink, all things twirly, all things ballet. I thought I'd share some of the magic with you.
Firstly, let's chat about the wonderful city of Derby, where I spent a blissful few days. It's home to my lovely Auntie Beatrice and the fabulous Derby Theatre. We headed there together for the premiere of "Alice in Wonderland," and it was truly magical! Just imagine, a beautifully crafted set, the most exquisite costumes, and dancing so expressive and moving it practically brought tears to my eyes.
Following the performance, I couldn't resist grabbing a hot chocolate in the theatre café. (It's my ritual - you've got to fuel the tutus!) Afterwards, Auntie Bea treated me to a dinner at one of those divine vintage-themed tea rooms she always finds - "A Little Bit of Lace" was the name, and it was perfect for us to spend the evening sharing gossip and girly secrets, all amongst pretty china cups and a sprinkle of vintage glamour.
You've already seen my latest tutus from the fabulous "Dance Dreams" boutique, but they have an exciting new line launching this spring that will take the tutu world by storm. I had to pinch myself, I just couldn't resist adding a few of their newest designs to my collection – the “Prima Ballerina” in delicate baby pink and the “Pink Swirl” with all its glamorous frills, absolutely took my breath away.
Rugby Bound: The Romance of Rail Travel
My week also included a rather delightful train journey to Rugby! I adore the romance of rail travel, a good book, and the soft chugging of the engine. You wouldn’t believe it, but they had an "Evening With the Stars" special train on the way! We were surrounded by other dance enthusiasts, laughing and reminiscing over cups of tea. I met such a delightful lady who told me she was a lifelong fan of ballet, even had a photo with Dame Margot Fonteyn. It’s amazing how ballet can create connections like that, bridging generations.
The main attraction of Rugby was the spectacular "Tutus of the World" exhibit. The idea behind the show is to bring together dancers and designers from across the globe, showcasing the incredible history and diverse influences behind tutu design, from the grand ballerinas of the Imperial Russian Ballet to modern innovations. Honestly, my head spun seeing the evolution of the tutu, all those elaborate layers and stunning colours, truly a work of art.
A Horseback Ride With Style!
Now, while in Rugby I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a bit of equestrian adventure. This charming city also has a lovely tradition of horse riding – not your average riding school! I was lucky enough to meet up with "The Pink Riding Club" – yes, they really ride with a sprinkle of pink on their attire! I was welcomed into the stable with open arms and we trotted through the rolling hills of Warwickshire, surrounded by nature.
There's something so freeing about the wind whipping past you as you gallop on a horse, feeling the sun on your face. You truly feel alive and in tune with your inner animal, all while sporting a pretty, feminine pink helmet, a real tutu moment, even when riding! You can never be too much of a girly girl, you know.
My Dream: A World Filled With Tutu Magic
Every experience reminds me that ballet is more than just an art form - it’s a way of life. It teaches grace, discipline, and joy, qualities I feel everyone could benefit from. That's why I believe in the magic of a pink tutu! My mission, darlings, is to inspire others to find their inner ballerina.
Don't worry, I don't expect everyone to be doing grand jetés in the park (although I am open to the suggestion!) But try putting on a tutu. Even if it's just for 5 minutes, maybe twirl around the living room or in your garden, feel the energy of your own body in motion. I promise, it'll bring a little sprinkle of joy into your day.
