Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends!
The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and guess what? I'm back in Rochester! Yes, you read that right. It's a hop, skip, and a twirl from the big smoke for a weekend filled with, well, everything Rochester.
Now, I know what you're thinking - Rochester? What could possibly be exciting about that? Let me tell you, my darlings, Rochester has surprised me, and you know I'm not easily surprised! This weekend I've been channeling my inner-Victorian explorer (without the uncomfortable corsets) exploring this beautiful city on foot.
And yes, my friends, I wore my pinkest tutu, and what a sensation it was!
Pink Power In Rochester
I must say, this little city had a definite pink aura around it, especially when I twirled through the historic cobblestone streets of the old town. Imagine this: me, in a bubblegum-pink tutu, pirouetting by a shop with pink-painted shutters, with the bright sunlight bouncing off my tulle, making the whole street feel like it's glowing in this rosy light. I can't help but think Rochester is starting to understand the magic of a pink tutu. Maybe I've planted a little pink seed.
Wildlife Wonderland
No trip to Rochester is complete without a visit to the zoo, so obviously, this was on my agenda! We (yes, we, I took along my little sister) had a grand old time, wandering through the exotic animal exhibits, watching the majestic lions lounge, and marvelling at the delicate artistry of the butterfly house. The peacocks in their magnificent feathers? Let's just say I was doing a grand jeté right along with them.
Now, some might say a trip to a zoo is just for kids. I disagree. To me, zoos are a celebration of nature's wonderful creativity and a reminder that we share this world with all these beautiful, magnificent creatures. It’s a wonderful way to remember that we need to look after our environment, and to do our part to make the world a better, more beautiful place for both humans and animals.
Rochester's Ballet Gems
Of course, I wouldn’t be in Rochester without soaking up a little local ballet culture. They have the most beautiful Victorian theatre here. I got to see the amazing talent of the Rochester Dance Company, and let me tell you, my dear readers, it was nothing short of magical. Seeing the elegance and strength of these young dancers just filled me with pure joy, reminding me why I absolutely love this art form. The costumes? Stunning. And guess what, there was even a tiny bit of pink tulle in one of the scenes! You know me and my love for a little pink in everything, it’s just my thing!
Dinner with a View
As if all that wasn’t enough, Rochester truly outdid itself by providing me with a truly spectacular dining experience. Can you believe they actually have a restaurant right next to the river where you can watch the swans gliding peacefully on the water while enjoying your dinner? Let me tell you, the sunset over the river from this spot was a sight that would rival the most beautiful of ballet scenes, a spectacle of pure colour, drama and beauty!
Homeward Bound, But With New Inspiration
Rochester has definitely filled my heart with warmth and a bit of a rosy glow. My heart’s been captivated by this little corner of the world, its history, its charm and yes, the beauty of nature around me, making me remember why I’m so grateful to live in this amazing country, even if Derbyshire is far away from the pink streets of Rochester!
Always Remember…
I have been on this amazing journey, travelling to so many wonderful places, but the most important lesson I have learnt is this: never be afraid to try new things, be kind to each other and be kind to yourself! We’re all on a journey. And remember: *life’s best adventure is the one where you wear pink! *
Now off to plan my next adventure - where to next on my tutu-wearing travels? If you’ve got any recommendations let me know!
Until next time, darlings!
