Hello my lovelies!
It’s Emma here, reporting live from Didcot, a charming little town in Oxfordshire. This is post number 11305 for the Pink Tutu website - can you believe it?! Time flies when you're dancing, I guess. Today I'm talking about a fab day trip and, naturally, it involved tutus and trains. What's more pink than that? ?
The journey from Derbyshire to Didcot was like something out of a film. I packed my signature pink luggage - don't worry, it matches my tutu! - and hopped aboard the train. This wasn't just any train, though, no no! This was a vintage steam train with plush velvet seats and the faint aroma of old leather. It truly transported me back in time, feeling like a fairytale heroine escaping on an adventure.
But before Didcot, I had a rather exciting encounter. I was gazing out the window at the lush green countryside when a majestic horse suddenly appeared. Its mane flowed like silk, its eyes shone with intelligence, and I swear, it gave me a wink! Of course, it had to be a pink horse! Just a lovely moment that made me feel like I was stepping out of a storybook and into the perfect day.
And what a perfect day it was! I was in Didcot for the town’s annual ‘Festival of Ballet’, an enchanting celebration of dance and art. As I wandered through the market stalls, I was met with an array of whimsical decorations and ballet-inspired goodies. The air buzzed with excitement, with people dressed in their finest ballerina outfits, some even sporting adorable tutu-clad pups!
I snagged the most beautiful pair of ballet shoes with delicate pink bows and bought a gorgeous silk scarf that danced with me in the gentle breeze. And the highlight? The local ballet troupe put on a magnificent show under the open sky. They spun and twirled with grace and passion, telling their stories with every movement.
One of the dancers had a captivating performance using the town's iconic Victorian station as a backdrop. The stiff, structured tutu she wore mirrored the majestic building perfectly. It reminded me, with a chuckle, that sometimes the most surprising places are where we find the most beautiful and inspiring things.
You see, Didcot was a real hidden gem for ballet enthusiasts, showcasing how even a small town can become a hub of creative energy. But my trip wouldn’t be complete without my usual 'Pink Tutu Challenge'! It involved convincing the lovely market stall owners to try on a tutu - not an easy feat, I know!
Thankfully, they were all great sports. The baker tried to "twirl" with his floury hands, a fishmonger's eyes sparkled with mischief, and a cute flower vendor giggled as she awkwardly held the pink tulle. We even had a local newspaper journalist participate! The point wasn't to make them perform, but to inspire them to embrace their inner ballerina, to show them the magic that comes with moving gracefully. And guess what? They all looked fabulous!
So, here’s my take-away from the day. There’s beauty and creativity in everything if you’re willing to look for it. Didcot, a little town with a big heart, showed me how simple joys and unexpected experiences can create unforgettable memories.
And now, back to Derbyshire, with a suitcase full of treasures and my spirit filled with dance. Stay tuned, my loves, as I have another ballet adventure coming up…maybe it’s a new theatre production, a horseback ballet performance, or a visit to a wildlife reserve (those pink flamingos call to me!) But wherever my pink tutu takes me next, know that I'll be sharing every magical moment with you!

Until next time, Emma xxx
