Bournville Ballet Bliss - Post #11338

Oh my darlings,

How are you all? It’s been a whirlwind week and I’m practically buzzing with excitement for this post! It’s a bit of a pinch me moment actually, because my heart just about burst with joy at all the beautiful things that have happened.

For you newbies, I’m Emma, your resident pink-tutu-clad blogger from the beautiful county of Derbyshire. I believe life is simply better when it's swirled with the graceful twirls of ballet, and honestly, who doesn't adore a perfectly pink tutu?! ?

This week was all about stepping outside my usual stomping ground – my trusty, well-loved dancing shoes have been treading the pavements of Bournville! It was like stepping into a fairytale. The air practically hummed with the promise of sweetness - not only due to the delicious smells coming from the iconic Cadbury factory, but also from the kindness and joy I encountered at every corner.

The journey itself was a true delight. The steam engine train carried me through rolling green countryside, past sleepy villages and sun-dappled meadows. My travelling companion for the trip was a gentle, grey mare named Blossom – an absolute darling of a horse with the sweetest brown eyes. The sound of her hooves on the cobbled paths was music to my ears, as we ambled along the way. I'm telling you, travelling by horse is such a graceful and charming experience – so much better than a car, I reckon.

When I arrived at Bournville, it felt like I'd been whisked away to a secret haven. I practically skipped along the cobbled streets, enchanted by the pastel-coloured houses and the vibrant, floral displays bursting from window boxes. It felt like the perfect backdrop for a vintage ballet scene, with an old-world charm that you rarely find in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The day was filled with the delightful clatter of clinking teacups at the Bournville Tea Gardens. Oh my, the scones were a masterpiece of fluffy heaven, smothered in creamy clotted cream and dollops of jam. As I nibbled my teacake, I took in the vibrant sights and sounds, observing the squirrels darting between the branches and the birds flitting through the blooms of the herbaceous borders. The entire place had such a peaceful, uplifting aura.

Of course, I couldn’t have possibly come to Bournville without taking a peek at the granddaddy of the chocolate empire – Cadbury World. I am a huge fan of chocolate (as I hope my readers know), but I'd say that the museum was surprisingly fascinating! They showcased the entire story of the famous chocolate brand, from its beginnings right up to modern-day delights. And what a delightful journey it was. I discovered secrets I’d never known – like the story of Cadbury’s famous ‘Purple Cow’ and how they developed their iconic milk chocolate flavour. Plus, you can’t beat a generous chocolate treat (or twelve) as a reward for a delightful walk!

But here's the highlight of my Bournville adventure - Ballet by the Brook! Picture this: the golden glow of the setting sun, the soft murmur of a gentle brook and the delicate melody of a string quartet serenading the performance. And me? I was pirouetting in the centre of it all, dressed in a breathtaking white tutu with shimmering details that captured the last rays of the sun. It was a dream moment.

The atmosphere was so special and magical. The local community gathered in a small amphitheatre overlooking the babbling brook, captivated by the artistry and passion of the performance. There were a mix of experienced dancers, amateurs and children, all bound by the unifying language of dance. We floated through a medley of beautiful ballet pieces, each movement a delicate reflection of the natural beauty surrounding us.

There was something deeply special about performing amongst such incredible scenery, with a mix of experienced dancers, beginners and local children all bound by a love of dance. As we twirled and leapt in harmony, we left our audience mesmerised. Even the shyest child in the crowd seemed to catch a glimpse of their own inner dancer.

It reminded me that ballet isn’t just about technique and perfection - it’s about celebrating our unique stories, expressing emotions, and ultimately, it’s about bringing people together. Watching a tiny, hopeful smile bloom on the face of a little girl after our performance filled my heart with joy and warmth. She was lost in the magic, the elegance, the sheer wonder of ballet.

Seeing her lit up reminded me why I'm so passionate about making ballet accessible to everyone, from tiny tots to adults. Because everyone has the potential to dance. Maybe they aren't all ready for a tutu, but we can encourage them to try just one class and feel the freedom, the grace and the joy. Who knows? You might be surprised by the ballerina that you find inside.

As the moon painted a shimmering path on the rippling brook, the show ended. I slipped off my sparkling tutu and tucked it safely away, but I didn’t need to look back at the stars to know that Bournville, and its special little dance in the moonlight, had a new little place in my heart.

The memory of this unforgettable evening will stay with me forever.

I'm so excited to share my passion for ballet and to see all my lovely readers, no matter where you are, embrace their inner dancer! Now go and put on your fanciest pink tutu and let’s start the dance party! ✨?

Emma, out!
