Darling! What a month for ballet, the world truly twirled into a whirlwind of elegance and emotion. Oh my, the October season had everything - the fiery passion of Spain, the delicate precision of the Royal Ballet, and even a touch of Disney magic! But let's begin with the pièce de résistance: the Romeo & Juliet by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, darling! Breathtaking, utterly breathtaking. • It is always such a pleasure to watch them dance, their precision is simply astonishing. The sheer emotion poured into each movement was utterly intoxicating. The way Svetlana Zakharova portrays Juliet, it's - well - quite simply perfection. It's that ethereal quality that makes her such a powerful force on the stage. Her jumps, the lightness in her feet, the elegant extension of her lines... utterly sublime! The way she evokes the tenderness and fragility of young love, while simultaneously radiating strength and resolve, it is just exquisite. • Then, of course, there was the phenomenal Vladislav Lantratov as Romeo. The man's artistry is divine. He moves with such fluidity and power - and the intensity of his gaze - divine! His passionate solo, a veritable tapestry of athleticism and grace, had the entire audience spellbound. And their final moments, their tragic embrace, oh the sorrow, the sheer poignant drama. It broke my heart. • But you know, the real highlight for me? The final performance was something truly magical. The orchestra played like they were angels! The passion, the romance, the sheer despair, it all flowed through the theatre - like a dream. **Moving on from the romantic drama, ** I have to say my next favourite had to be the Birmingham Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker at the Birmingham Hippodrome, simply a delight! • Now, I am well aware it's the time for "Nutcracker" performances. You find it everywhere. But what they managed to achieve here was simply superb! The detail in the choreography was magnificent - especially the opening scene in the snowy forest, pure enchantment! • What I particularly loved was their rendition of the Arabian Dance. It's traditionally quite provocative - a bit suggestive in its movement, you know? But, darling, here it was simply enchanting! The sheer beauty of it, with the choreography beautifully highlighting the contrasts in energy and movement, it left me feeling so completely invigorated! • Of course, my dear, it would not be The Nutcracker without a breathtaking sugarplum fairy. This year's ballerina - the stunning Nao Sakuma - took the entire stage! With such elegance, such delicacy in every gesture. Her leaps - so airy and precise - like she could soar to the very heavens. Such wonderful artistry! • It was a true feast for the eyes. If you're looking for some festive magic this October, this is absolutely not to be missed, my dear. Right, now darling, a slight change of direction. While these performances were exquisite, a truly different kind of performance swept across the world, an utterly unforgettable performance in Madrid. This, my dear, was the Gala Ballet de España at the Teatro Real. • I am such a lover of flamenco, its dramatic emotion, the intensity, and yes, darling, the absolute sensuality. This, for me, was like stepping into the heart of Andalusia. It's not ballet in the traditional sense - more dance, more sensual storytelling with every flick of the hand, every click of the castanets. But darling, what an intoxicating display! • The company of dancers - some so young - but with a passion so deep, they brought the entire stage alive. There were times when my heart beat in my chest as I watched them spin, leap, and simply exude such dramatic emotion - especially during their depiction of the fight and anguish - it felt incredibly raw and real, darling. • And, darling, we were given a beautiful insight into Spanish history with the wonderful and moving, El Amor Brujo. It is, simply put, a work of exquisite artistry, so emotive, the passion! You could simply feel the sorrow of the story unfolding around us. It's not an evening of traditional ballets, but if you want a whirlwind of passionate, emotive dance - then this was definitely an experience to remember! Finally, my dears, it was a delight to witness the magic of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by the Northern Ballet in Leeds. It was sheer fun! • You could just feel the energy in the theatre, this was an absolutely wonderful family performance! I truly appreciated the brilliance of their imaginative choreography - all those charming animal characters. The Rabbit with its constantly hurried, running movement, and the Dormouse - with that sleep-addled and comical style - simply delightful! • The White Rabbit's frantic pace and frantic movements just made you chuckle, while the Caterpillar’s nonchalant languid movements added that special touch of bizarre humour - I found myself grinning, truly enjoying the charmingly chaotic wonderland! • As for the beautiful and enigmatic Queen of Hearts, well, I was so impressed. This ballerina - it is such a difficult part to make truly interesting! She was so imperious - her presence simply commandingly elegant. She exuded power and control - such fantastic characterisation! • And then we had the delightful Alice. Her performance, my dear, she really carried the performance, bringing out the character’s youthful charm, vulnerability and naivety with beautiful elegance, truly capturing the essence of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece! • Of course, dear, what would it be without the beautiful costumes, those bright, fantastical and surreal details? And the music, oh the music, it so perfectly conveyed the magical nature of this timeless story! All in all, an enchanting, colourful, whimsical experience that is sure to delight audiences of all ages! **As I sit here, my dear, thinking back over this fabulous month, I'm simply swooning with joy, the emotion! We were treated to such extraordinary beauty and artistry. I have no doubt this wonderful ballet season is just beginning, a whirlwind of exciting performances! I just can’t wait to see what new and dazzling performances November will bring!
