This prestigious institution never disappoints. The stage was set aglow with the vibrant colours of the costumes and the stage lights highlighting the movements of the dancers.

My eyes were transfixed on the breathtaking artistry of their production of Swan Lake. It was the sublime precision of the dancers' every move - a captivating display of graceful leaps, breathtaking pirouettes, and effortless extensions, which simply blew me away.

It is my view that ballet can speak a thousand words with each gesture, and a recent visit to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow served as an eloquent confirmation. The dramatic choreography and heartfelt emotions displayed in their production of Romeo and Juliet truly transported me back to that love story. You can truly see why Shakespeare remains a master storyteller, through their ballet portrayal of forbidden love, passion and sacrifice.

The Bolshoi Orchestra delivered a powerful musical accompaniment, seamlessly merging with the choreography, highlighting every dramatic beat. Every dance felt full of passion and pathos. I even spotted a fellow fashion enthusiast who, much like myself, could not help but gasp at the opulence of the costumes. Absolutely stunning! I’d be lying if I said it was not an utterly moving experience - I shed a tear or two. That’s how much I was drawn into their rendition.

Of course, any discussion of contemporary ballet would be incomplete without paying homage to the bold and brilliant American Ballet Theatre. I must commend their willingness to push boundaries, while upholding the traditional artistry we hold dear. I am drawn to their innovative choreography - I recently witnessed a production that had dancers executing complex contemporary movements, interwoven with breathtaking, traditional elements.

It's the audacity of their experimentation and bold choreography, I am drawn to their artistic expression, while simultaneously embracing their strong ballet roots.

Oh my, the artistic world has become saturated with these stunning and daring independent ballet companies. It seems that these days the traditional and modern blend into a seamless harmony. Take the example of a smaller company from London: the Birmingham Royal Ballet. A smaller but incredibly talented company which presented a daring new piece exploring modern-day struggles. A brilliant commentary on our contemporary world and an exhilarating display of artistry. It's captivating to witness their audacity.

Ballet has this unique quality to cross language barriers, reaching deep within our souls. It has touched so many cultures across the globe. This brings me to Japan and the remarkable work of the Shizuoka Dance Academy. A recent visit to their studio exposed me to the brilliance and unique cultural touch of their artistic expression. Their storytelling through dance was so deeply personal and emotionally resonant - the intricate footwork and elegant movements were simply breathtaking, as was their production of Swan Lake.

Speaking of ballet and our fascination with Swan Lake, it wouldn’t be right to finish this without reflecting on the exquisite, captivating ballerina who has touched generations with her artistry, Natalia Osipova.
