My dears,

Another month, another whirl of world-class ballet performances. As May unfolds, so does a veritable bloom of choreographic brilliance. This month, my calendar overflowed with breathtaking performances. I flitted between shimmering stages across continents, embracing every step of the way.

In Paris, I was swept away by the opulent grandeur of the Paris Opera Ballet's production of **Swan Lake**. It's a timeless classic, but the production breathed fresh life into this much-loved tale. The exquisite costumes and meticulously crafted set transported me to a mythical realm of shimmering lakes and menacing forests. My heart skipped a beat at the precise, effortless grace of the corps de ballet as they swanned in unison, their movements as light as a feather, yet powerful and impactful. The poignant portrayal of the swan queen by a newcomer, a lovely creature, had the audience rapt.

Next, I made a pilgrimage to the hallowed halls of Covent Garden, where the Royal Ballet's bold new production of **Romeo and Juliet** left me breathless. The staging was both imaginative and respectful of the original, highlighting the raw, primal energy of young love set against a backdrop of warring families. The star-crossed lovers were danced by two sublime talents – a young and daring male dancer, and a woman who evoked both strength and vulnerability, drawing me into their story. The final pas de deux, the lovers’ eternal sleep, was as tragically beautiful as I have ever witnessed.

From the British Isles to the American continent, my dance travels led me to New York's Lincoln Center, home to the revered New York City Ballet. There, I experienced a dazzling interpretation of **The Firebird**. This legendary ballet's fiery passion and dramatic flair were rekindled in a fresh and vibrant rendition, highlighting the striking beauty of this timeless ballet. The performance was infused with a spirit of daring innovation, making this classic feel thoroughly modern. I particularly adored the exquisite portrayal of the Firebird herself, a dancer with a vibrant presence and mesmerizing stage charisma.

Now, to Moscow, where I witnessed a mesmerizing performance of **Giselle**. The Bolshoi Theatre, with its ornate chandeliers and velvet curtains, created an almost surreal atmosphere. And then there were the dancers, oh my! I watched with awe as they flawlessly navigated the intricate choreography, the ballerinas achieving impossibly perfect arabesques and leaps, the male dancers executing powerful fouettés and captivating jumps. This classic was not merely reinterpreted; it was reborn in all its tragic grandeur. A testament to the unparalleled technical skill and artistic expressiveness of Russian ballet.

On to Tokyo next. At the New National Theatre, I witnessed the ethereal beauty of **La Bayadere**. This captivating story of love and loss unfolded in a production that showcased the intricate and captivating beauty of the classical Indian dance elements woven into this ballet's tapestry. The captivating interplay of traditional Indian rhythms and Western ballet vocabulary mesmerised the audience. The graceful flow of the ballerinas and the robust presence of the male dancers in this beautiful dance work is a true highlight of this production.

Then back to Europe, I journeyed to Milan's famed La Scala, a theatre bursting with rich history and operatic glamour. Here, I experienced a visually stunning **Don Quixote**. It was a production overflowing with colour, vivacity, and dazzling choreography. The playful, charming character of Kitri brought to life by a truly gifted dancer filled me with joy. Her effortless artistry, captivatingly portrayed alongside her dashing partner, perfectly embodies the spirited heart of this classic production.

And then there was the electrifying experience of seeing the celebrated choreographer, John Neumeier's latest work at Hamburg State Opera. A bold and deeply moving **Mayerling** left a lasting impression on me. It's a production that delves deep into themes of passion, obsession, and tragedy, with an exquisitely crafted choreography, showcasing a ballet of haunting beauty. The raw vulnerability of the dancers brought the tale of this doomed Habsburg prince vividly to life. Each pirouette and relevé expressed the turmoil within.

My travels in May took me across the world, and it was truly a testament to the unifying power of ballet, a language understood by audiences across continents. Whether I found myself mesmerized by a performance in the grand halls of a historic opera house or captivated by the intimacy of a smaller theatre, each performance revealed a unique artistry and emotional depth. I am perpetually inspired by the sheer beauty, technical brilliance, and unwavering commitment displayed by the dancers.

There are still more incredible performances waiting to unfold. The balletic world will undoubtedly continue to enchant with breathtaking productions in the months to come. I look forward to sharing more of my balletic discoveries with you, my dearest readers.

Until then, may your days be filled with the elegance of art, and may the grace of the dancers ignite your souls.

Your devoted dance aficionado,

Isabella
