Tutu Tuesday: A Glimpse Back to 1857! ๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ’–

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, and it's another #TutuTuesday! I'm feeling positively giddy, as this week's journey in time has taken me back to a truly glorious era! Can you believe it's August 25th, 1857? Just picture it - the horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping down cobblestone streets, elegant ladies in their finest gowns, and oh, the incredible fashion! It's just begging to be explored, wouldn't you agree?

Today's #TutuTuesday takes us to the heart of Parisian fashion, where a certain M. Charles Worth, the "Father of Haute Couture," is captivating the world with his breathtaking creations. ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท Imagine gowns so magnificent, so luxurious, they would make a princess blush! Just a whisper of this Parisian fashion was seeping into English society, and oh, what a spectacle it was. I bet even my Granny Ethel would have fallen in love with the styles!

Of course, our beloved ballet was buzzing with excitement too! It's truly wonderful how these two worlds collide. We all know ballet is about beauty, grace, and artistry, right? And so is a perfect Parisian dress, wouldn't you agree?

This was also a pivotal moment for the very origins of our beloved tutu, darlings. A whispered hint, a bit of an "almost there" situation before its full emergence, as we know it today! The idea of a full, layered skirt had been gaining traction, and those adorable short, en pointe tutu skirts that were almost what we see now, were appearing in ballet performances. Imagine! We're just on the cusp of what's to come!

Don't worry, I've found the perfect historical tidbit to share with you today, darlings. This spectacular date is most memorable because of the opening of the first major department store in Paris, "Le Bon Marchรฉ!" Just imagine that, shopping! I can see the beautifully designed display windows and the rows upon rows of the most fabulous, glittering clothes, just begging to be taken home! Oh, to step back in time and lose myself in that shopping paradise! ๐Ÿ’–

Speaking of losing yourself, did you know ballet was everywhere in 1857? Performances at the Opรฉra Garnier, smaller private theaters... why, ballet was truly the highlight of social life. There's just something magical about watching the dancers gracefully glide across the stage in their exquisite costumes.

Now, I'm a firm believer that life is too short to be boring! Which is why, when I travel in time, I always make sure to step into those magnificent Parisian dance halls for an evening performance. And trust me, there's no better place to indulge in the artistry of movement than a bustling Parisian theater, surrounded by fashion icons and passionate admirers of dance!

After the performance, I always make it a point to head to one of the enchanting Parisian shops for a spot of clothes shopping. There is nothing quite like getting lost in a flurry of elegant lace, sparkling sequins, and flowing silk. It's essential for any true fashion enthusiast to revel in the Parisian glamour.

Even though I don't get to don the grand gowns of the era, don't worry darlings, because my faithful, ever-so-pretty, pink tutu always follows me. And what better place to flaunt its vibrant colours than among the stunning elegance of the 19th century? Even the grandest French lady might just be tempted to take a turn en pointe!

For today's blog post, I wanted to tell you about one of the most magical things about my time-travelling experiences. The ballet in this era is...well, it's truly special. Ballet performances back then are an event. A social spectacle. I always get drawn to the theatre as if by a magical force! You can feel the energy, the excitement of the performance just from being there, even before the curtains rise. It's captivating, romantic... almost a fairy tale!

Did you know the most important thing about tutus isn't even their cut, shape or the material used to create them, it's how they are worn. It's about the dancer, her performance, and how the tutu creates the feeling of grace and freedom, and adds magic to her moves.

Until next #TutuTuesday, darlings, remember - there is magic in everything you do, so keep dancing through life with that wonderful tutu-tastic energy! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿฉฐ

Emma xoxo
