#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through History - 1862-03-04! (Post #1575)
Bonjour mes chéries! Emma here, your trusty time-travelling ballerina blogger, back again for another fabulous #TutuTuesday! This week we're heading back in time to a most momentous date in history, the 4th of March 1862! Now, I know what you're thinking... "Tutus in 1862? Surely that's way too early, darling!" But you see, my dears, the history of our beloved tutus is longer and more glamorous than you might think!
Hold on to your pointe shoes, we're taking the express train to the very heart of Paris, the City of Lights and the ultimate cradle of the tutu! Ooh la la, how I do love a trip to Paris, especially to soak up the culture and the fashion! Don't you just love the way Parisian ladies effortlessly carry themselves, radiating elegance and poise? It's no wonder their dance traditions are as revered as their Haute Couture!
This very day, 4th of March, 1862, a certain "Monsieur Marius Petipa" debuted his groundbreaking ballet, "La Source". He’s considered one of the most influential ballet choreographers in history, you know, a veritable master of the graceful arts. Now, just imagine, darlings! Imagine the excitement buzzing in the air on this day. The gilded halls of the Opéra de Paris, overflowing with the most exquisite frocks, feathers, and furs... And then, on stage, there’s the debut of La Source. Oh, it was pure ballet magic, with swirling tutus, captivating leaps, and an ethereal charm that would enchant even the most cynical of onlookers!
But why the fascination with the tutu back then? Why has this graceful garment captured the imagination of generations, captivating our hearts and dancing dreams? The answer lies in the heart of the Victorian era. The delicate layers of tulle and silk of a tutu reflected a growing appreciation for beauty and lightness in society. Think ethereal fairies, flitting about under the moonlight... that's what a tutu evokes! It represents a graceful escape from the strict norms of the Victorian times, and a yearning for dreams, fantasies, and artistic freedom.
But enough history, let’s dive into the fashion side of things! Do you know that back in 1862, the Parisian elite had their eyes set on one thing? A beautiful pink, my dears! This delicate hue represented feminine charm, sweetness, and romance... and let me tell you, it was the most fashionable colour around! Now, if we fast forward to the modern day, we see that the pink tutu, well, it just takes centre stage!
My dearest girls, the world loves to twirl! It's an expression of pure joy, a reminder that life is meant to be embraced with laughter and a hint of whimsy. So put on your fanciest tutu, pink or not, and let your heart guide you as you dance your way into the world, like the whimsical fairy you were always meant to be. You don’t need a stage to dance. The whole world is your stage, my dears, your life, your love for fashion, a magical stage for you to sparkle, and shine, and twirl to your heart's content!
Don’t forget to check back in with me next week for another fabulous #TutuTuesday journey through history, you lovely ladies!
Bisous,
Emma,
