#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1868-03-17 - Post No. 1890!
Hello my darlings! It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to… oh, let’s just say somewhere wonderful with an amazing train journey, of course! And as always, it’s #TutuTuesday and time for a deep dive into the enchanting history of the ballet tutu!
A Pink Tutu Dream
Now, I'm sure you've noticed the trend in my wardrobe - pink tutus. Everything else just seems, well, plain. You can’t deny, a pink tutu makes a statement! I mean, just look at me - how much prettier is it than a beige one, for instance? And who wouldn’t want to be that gorgeous! Pink tutus are my life's passion! Not just as an aficionado of dance but for the sheer delight they bring.
So, dear readers, imagine with me: 1868. The bustle of Paris. Charming cobblestone streets, the scent of freshly baked croissants in the air, and the elegant silhouettes of women sporting the latest Parisian fashions… And it is into this enchanting scene that our little tutu story enters!
Fashion and Tutus: 1868 and Beyond!
You see, in 1868, the romanticism of the 19th century ballet was already taking shape. We’re talking graceful movements, ethereal stories, and of course, the star of the show… the tutu! It was about this time, you know, that the tutu really started to develop its distinctive form, with more delicate fabrics and more voluminous shapes - perfect for all the twirling and leaps that ballet demands. Can you just imagine those exquisite flounces fluttering across the stage?
A Peek Behind The Curtain
I remember vividly my first ballet performance back in… well, in this time period (it gets a bit confusing, darling! I’m time-traveling!). It was a grand theatre in Vienna. The dancers in their exquisite costumes and delicate tutus were simply mesmerizing, twirling, spinning, gliding across the stage like magical, living paintings. My eyes widened, captivated by every single movement, every gesture. I remember being quite jealous of the women with their delightful costumes! It was an experience that solidified my love for ballet and its stunning costumes! And let’s face it, those tutus really made the show!
A Glimpse into Fashion: March 17th, 1868!
What a perfect day to explore the history of the tutu! You know why, darlings? Because March 17th was St. Patrick's Day! Imagine - all that delightful emerald green! In those days, St. Patrick's Day fashion embraced the emerald hue in a full array of styles. I'd have loved to try a touch of green for that very special day - perhaps a green satin sash for my pink tutu, don't you think? But hey, one thing’s for certain - green is just not the color of tutus. Just saying!
Let's Celebrate The Tutu!
Today’s #TutuTuesday is a time for remembering and celebrating the tutu! After all, they’ve become synonymous with ballet - they just capture the joy, elegance, and artistry of it all, don’t they? And we all know, they look absolutely darling on anyone - ballerina, or not!
So my loves, wear that pink tutu proudly - whether you’re dancing in your living room or taking a trip to the bakery. Let it bring you a little joy, a little whimsy, and a reminder that there's a little ballerina inside every single one of us!
Until next time, keep twirling, keep sparkling, and keep those tutus high, my dearest readers!
Lots of love,
Emma xoxo
