Tutu Tuesday: A Blast from the Past - #1921

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, back with another peek into the magical world of tutus. This week we're taking a time-traveling trip to October 20th, 1868, a date packed with excitement and fascinating fashion history!

Imagine the thrill of stepping off the train, all swirling skirts and anticipation, in a bustling Paris! The air buzzes with energy, a whirlwind of carriage traffic and chatter, and a sense of romantic adventure hangs in the air. The grand avenues are bursting with colourful boutiques, perfumeries, and cafes - such delightful temptations!

Today, October 20th, 1868, we're venturing into the Grand Opéra House. Imagine the grandeur! The sparkling chandeliers, the plush red velvet seats, and the whisper of expectation before the curtains rise! We're here to see a Grand Ballet, perhaps a Grand Pas de Deux, with ballerinas pirouetteing in all their glory.

Ah, but what of the tutus?

Our ballerinas of this era might be wearing a romantically long and full tutu. Imagine the twirls, the fluttering, and the grace as they move. These tutus are soft and billowing, their lightness creating a symphony of motion and emotion. This Romantic style tutu - long and graceful, like a cloud dancing on stage - is the height of fashion and truly magical to witness. It was quite the spectacle!

While our ballerinas twirl on stage, we might be perusing the fashionable boutiquies, * marveling at *elaborate dresses and beautiful millinery. Perhaps I would pick up a silk ribbon to adorn my own pink tutu, adding a dash of sparkle and romance.

The year 1868 was also the year Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens were officially opened! It’s the kind of charming park, filled with delightful diversions and places to picnic, that would send any true Parisian fashionista into raptures! Imagine a day of dancing and delightful pastries, surrounded by beautiful flowers and charming sights. The day’s fashion would, of course, involve charming, elegant gowns and delicately boned corsets, all to make the most of those delightful waltzes and promenade dances. Oh, the allure of Victorian elegance!

My dearest Tutu-ers, as you see, the 20th of October 1868 is full of fun and fashion! What I wouldn’t give to hop in a time machine and be part of the magic of it all. Perhaps we could even be part of the Parisian scene. Perhaps I could start a pink tutu trend right then and there! Imagine the elegant Parisian ladies, all clad in pink tutus, waltzing beneath the moonlight in the romantic city!

Don’t forget to tune in next week, dear Tutu-ers, for another exciting dive into the history of the wonderful tutu. As for me, I’m off to find a fabulous pink tulle and maybe even a lace-edged parasol to add to my collection! See you all next Tuesday!

Until then, keep dancing and always keep your pink tutu close to your heart!

Love, Emma
