#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-loving tutu enthusiast, ready to whisk you away on another #TutuTuesday journey! 🚂 Today we’re travelling back to the 27th of October, 1868. Imagine a world of gaslight, grand Victorian balls, and… drumroll… the birth of a ballet icon! 🎉

This week’s #TutuTuesday takes us right to the heart of Paris, a city that's practically synonymous with the art of dance. The air is filled with the tinkling of horse-drawn carriages and the murmur of excited crowds heading to the opera. You can practically smell the sugared almonds and the heady scent of lilac perfume! 💐

As a time traveller, the fun part of being here is all the fantastic fashions. Today's fashion statement is a real feast for the eyes! Think layers of rustling silks, delicate lace, and a glorious symphony of colours that rival the most opulent garden. It's like a giant flower pot explosion of style! 🌺 And of course, every well-dressed lady would know that a fabulous bustle is the absolute must-have accessory. Imagine the excitement of picking out your perfect bustle from a shop crammed with plumes and feathers! 😍

Speaking of which, can we talk about tutus? It’s quite a tale of history this week! Remember those grand ballets we all know and love, with graceful ballerinas flitting across the stage in fluffy tulle? Well, imagine those tutus but with more frills, more fluff, and almost an abundance of fabric! They were truly a statement of grandeur and grace. ✨ I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them even had feathers poking out at the side - very chic indeed!

But what makes this date so special, you ask? Why, it's the anniversary of the premiere of La Source ballet by Léo Delibes! This performance showcased an exquisite new costume design with what we’d recognise today as a proper “romantic” ballet tutu! That’s right, my dears, the tutus that you see at the Royal Ballet, the tutus that shimmer and sparkle when the ballerina pirouettes across the stage, they all trace their roots to this performance! Think about it - every single Swan Lake, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty that you've ever seen - they all started with that revolutionary, glorious ballet tutu. Isn't that amazing? 🩰

My little trip through time always makes me marvel at the continuity of fashion and its connections to history. That fluffy, graceful tutu has remained a timeless classic, even as dance trends have changed over the years. Today, the delicate white tutu may be accompanied by different styles of ballet slippers or pointe shoes, but that core essence of femininity, elegance, and grace - they haven’t changed one bit! It's proof that even with ever-evolving trends, some things just never go out of style. 😉

This week I also had the joy of going to the Opera Comique. It was a breathtaking experience, seeing dancers twirl across the stage in their opulent costumes. But honestly, the sheer volume of pink tulle and frills on every tutu in the room made me feel like I was stepping right into my dream closet! It’s so inspiring, and a reminder that fashion and dance have this wonderful, intertwining magic that carries us from era to era. 💖
