#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - June 8th, 1869 - Post #1954

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where we delve into the fabulous world of tutus! It's #TutuTuesday again, which means it's time for another exciting journey through history, my lovelies. Grab your fanciest teacups and your prettiest pink frocks, because today we're taking a trip back to the year 1869, my dears!

A Grand Parisian Excursion

My last ballet performance was such a delight! The audience was utterly charmed, and I even managed to squeeze in a quick stop at the most fabulous Parisian department store after the show. They have the most divine ribbons and fabrics, it’s simply a dreamland! And I snagged the perfect piece of pink silk for a new tutu, darling! Imagine: a billowing cloud of soft, pink silk! Can’t you just picture it swirling around me as I leap across the stage?

A Trip Through Time - To June 1869!

But for now, I'm off on another time-travelling adventure. I'm off to June 1869, a date that holds a particular charm in the world of ballet! Let me whisk you back with me, my loves. Let’s picture cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, and a whole lot of excitement. Now imagine, in the very heart of this enchanting world, there is a theatre brimming with anticipation. You can practically smell the perfume and feel the excitement bubbling in the air, don't you? This is where the magic of ballet comes to life! The audience sits perched, waiting in breathless anticipation, for a ballet masterpiece - "La Source", to be exact, featuring one of the most celebrated ballet dancers of all time: Fanny Cerrito!

Fanny Cerrito: A True Dance Diva!

Oh, Fanny Cerrito was truly a legend, a sparkling gem amongst the dancers of her time, my darlings! I absolutely adore her, just a wonderfully expressive and passionate dancer, a whirlwind of grace and skill! If you ever get the chance, you simply must search for footage of her, It is quite remarkable for a time so long ago! You will simply be spellbound!

And, my lovelies, this was a groundbreaking year for Fanny! The year she returned to the Parisian stage in a most magnificent fashion - donning a show-stopping pink tutu! Oh, it's all quite the story, you see? This wasn’t just any tutu - it was a triumph of design, a vision of femininity!

The Allure of Pink Tutus - Then and Now

A dazzling pink tutu has the most captivating presence. In that magical Parisian theatre, Fanny’s pink tutu was the main attraction, I am certain! All the fashionable folks would be watching with delight!

Do you know, dear friends, it seems there was a shift in style happening in the 1860s. The earlier ballet tutus were a bit more restrained - a single layer of white tulle and little embellishment. But this was all about to change, leading us into an era of ballet tutus full of beautiful colours, romantic shapes, and delicate adornment. And guess what colour took centre stage? That's right! The magical shade of pink, darling! Pink tutus became more and more prominent in ballet, signifying a move away from the staid white, my darlings.

Fashion in Paris

Now I truly wish I could have visited Paris in 1869. I can just imagine all the amazing fashion! Oh, those glorious frocks and hats and those beautifully adorned boudoirs and drawing-rooms with gilded furniture and lavish floral arrangements! I can almost hear the clinking of champagne flutes as Parisian society ladies enjoy afternoon tea while talking about the latest ballets.

Traveling by Train - To the Beautiful Theatre!

And imagine, my darlings, how magical a train journey would have been to this Parisian theatre. I love the train. It has such an air of excitement, the rumble, the steam, and the bustle! It takes you to faraway destinations and lets you discover new adventures, like an amazing new pair of pink slippers in the most divine fabric shop!

* A Timeless Pink Tutu Love*

As I travel through time, you’ll see I never stop getting excited about the gorgeous tutus throughout the eras. Just as I would find an inspiration for my new creation in Parisian shops in 2023, a pink silk fabric for my new pink tulle tutu - a piece that embodies elegance and graceful artistry that makes hearts flutter and turn heads with its romantic and delicate pink layers - the beautiful pink tutus of 1869 had their own uniqueness, didn’t they? They embodied a specific vision, a period style.

My Little Dream for Every Day

My friends, we live in an exciting time for tutus. And while my time-traveling takes me to the ballet's golden era, every Tuesday I try to add my little touch of magic with my #TutuTuesday blog posts. It is my dearest wish to spread a little ballet tutu love to the world - one post at a time. I do hope to see a little spark of pink tutus appearing everywhere I go. And that is my wish for all of us - to spread a little sparkle in our world, with all things pink, fashion, and ballet.

So why not slip into your own favourite pink tutu for your week! It’s never too late to embrace your inner ballerina!

With lots of love and wishes for a fabulously pink day,

Emma, your time-traveling ballerina.
