#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 15th June 1869 (Post #1955)
Bonjour, darlings! Emma here, back again for another #TutuTuesday journey through the enchanting history of the ballet tutu! Today, we're going back to 15th June 1869 – oh, the excitement! Just imagine the sheer delight of being in Paris at this time. The city is buzzing with the latest fashions and the talk of the town is, of course, the ballet. This was the year, my dears, that the famous ballerina, Marie Taglioni, performed in "La Sylphide," a pivotal moment for the world of ballet. It’s a dream to think about her graceful leaps in that billowing white tutu – just breathtaking!
I’m in my pretty pink tutu this Tuesday, of course, as usual. It wouldn't be #TutuTuesday without it! I love the soft billows of tulle around my legs, just like Marie Taglioni would have worn, although, of course, mine is a gorgeous pink shade! Pink is my signature colour after all, and if there’s one thing I hope to achieve in my travels, it's getting everyone to wear pink tutus. Maybe, just maybe, one day…
But let's get back to 1869! The ballets of the time were all about grace and delicate femininity. Think wispy, flowing tutus, just like Marie Taglioni's iconic performance in "La Sylphide." The tutus then were not quite as tight or as revealing as some we see on the ballet stage today – oh, what a delight for the eyes! They were soft, romantic and ethereal, truly showcasing the beauty and artistry of ballet.
This trip was just delightful. Paris is a city made for dancing! Just being in the capital of fashion was thrilling enough, let alone witnessing such an iconic ballet performance. Marie Taglioni's dancing was enchanting and it was clear why she was adored! Seeing all the beautiful people, with their stylish dresses, charming top hats and delightful expressions made my heart dance with delight. It was quite a day in Paris, truly magical!
Just before leaving I found this most delightful store, all filled with the finest lace and ribbon, oh the things I could create for my next blog post! So of course, I spent a whole hour picking out fabrics for my new tutus - a delicious, shimmering silk for a soft ballet pink number and the most exquisite velvet for a beautiful shade of rose. This pink tutu is about to get a whole lot of glamorous friends. I have so many plans! You just wait, darlings, until you see what I create for my next tutu adventure!
Now, I need to take a moment and catch my breath, sipping a delightful tea before writing another captivating blog post. If you have any requests for topics, dear reader, please leave me a comment below! You can always find me here, and if you want to travel in time with me on #TutuTuesday, check back next Tuesday!
Until then, keep twirling and spread the joy of the ballet!
Your Emma xoxo
P.S. To ensure my ballet wardrobe stays filled with lovely tutus and that I can keep travelling in time, I perform in a little local theater show on occasion. Just a little song and dance, and presto! I get to visit another magical era! It's an exhausting, yet rewarding, life.
