#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #1969 - September 21st, 1869: A Glimpse into Parisian Ballet! ๐ฉฐ
Oh, darling tutus! How I love them. How I adore their airy flounces, their ethereal lightness, their ability to make even the most mundane day feel like a dream! Today's #TutuTuesday takes us back to the enchanting year of 1869, to the heart of Parisian ballet!
Imagine it - the year is 1869, and the buzz of the most prestigious ballet houses in the world is around me, right in the heart of Paris. Can-cans are a roaring success, and you know, these little glimpses of lacey frocks underneath have inspired the designers and fashion of the day. There is definitely a theme of 'less is more', my darlings. Think peek-a-boo frills of white and delicate lace! It's utterly divine.
We are at a pivotal point in dance, where new techniques are merging with classic artistry. Oh, darling, and the costumes, they are a symphony of tulle, silk and sequins, absolutely shimmering under the stage lights!
Did you know that this September, in 1869, one of my favourite composers - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was about to unveil a ballet called The Swan Lake (ooh la la, how sophisticated). His work would go on to be a landmark in ballet, truly a masterpiece, and I cannot wait to see this piece, and those incredible tutus in their magnificent stage design! Can you just imagine it? A lake scene in a flurry of white, just divine!
For this particular blog, I've actually popped into the beautiful Salle Pleyel. A stunning example of a classic French hall, full of that intricate wood design with intricate gilded detailing and chandeliers dripping with light and diamonds. My time traveling budget is getting tighter these days. I don't want to make a faux pas - the budget only stretches as far as my travel, so the show itself needs to wait! Perhaps if I put on a particularly excellent ballet performance... hmm, I wonder what could catch their eye? Maybe something new to Paris, a show stopper of a routine from the heart of Derbyshire, England! Just a thought...
But oh my darling, don't worry! I managed to snag myself an extremely beautiful ensemble (even with the time travel travel cost constraints), I do try to remain chic. Imagine a vibrant, almost fuchsia pink tutu, crafted from layers of the finest silk tulle, delicate enough to brush a cheek, yet strong enough to hold its own as you spin through the air.
The colour just pops! Absolutely divine. I paired this with a velvet bolero - in a slightly darker tone - an absolute bargain - think vintage, with buttons and a pearl that matches the tutu (a lucky find). It has such an elegant flow, so soft and romantic and makes me feel as elegant as a royal - or almost! Oh, it does give off that subtle Parisian chic, yes, darling, I've really embraced this fabulous trend! I even brought a pair of gloves for those elegant occasions in the afternoon. (As we can't go too bold - not when we want to look like Parisian ballerinas!). It all perfectly compliments this new vintage-inspired pink-coloured beret - it looks simply stunning. The shape and colour just give me those fabulous bohemian, Parisian vibes.
So my lovely tutus, do you agree with my choices for today? I just adore this ensemble! Don't forget to join me next Tuesday for another exciting voyage through ballet's past! ๐ฉฐ
Remember, keep that pink tutu ready, and remember you never know where time travel may take you.
Yours truly, Emma
