#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! (Post 1971)
Bonjour mes chéries! Emma here, back again with another delightful dive into the fascinating world of ballet history. Today, we're taking a little trip in time to October 5th, 1869, a date filled with history and whispers of tutu magic. Imagine, if you will, a world where crinoline was king and Paris was the undisputed centre of all things fashion! That's where we find ourselves this week.
Parisian Chic
Today's destination: the bustling heart of Paris! The very city where fashion dictates trends and creativity bursts at the seams. It's hard to imagine how ballet itself has even begun to change. Can you believe they still don't have tights, only stockings! We might just have to do some serious influencing to make tights the next big thing. And where better to do it than Paris? The home of Coco Chanel! Think about it, chic little black dress with the most exquisite, pink tutu? Now that's a fashion show I wouldn't miss!
A Tale of Two Stages
So, what happened in our beloved world of ballet on October 5th, 1869? It wasn't all ballrooms and tulle, there was some real life drama going on in the world of ballet... And by real life drama I mean: * There was a performance of La Esmeralda at the Opera Garnier! * There was a performance of Giselle at the Theatre Lyrique * But not everything is glitter and sparkles!
The Théâtre Lyrique was in some financial trouble at the time. Now I'm just picturing a beautiful ballet performance with one of those glorious tutus and the ballerinas must be just wondering how to get their hands on a brand new tutu from The Atelier, Paris. I just know the beautiful dancers want to show off the most stylish new tutus from The Atelier! They might be worried about what the critics are going to say about them - so perhaps a touch of pink to add that confidence boost? How utterly stylish for a ballerina's outfit to have a lovely pink touch!
I know how I'd spend my time in 1869! I'd head to the Parisian markets! I've got this image of The Atelier and those delicious displays of pink satin, silk and velvet for tutus. If I could sneak some new tutu designs into those fashionistas’ minds… Oh, how I could do it, imagine: Pink, and fashionable - the best of both worlds!
And remember that even today, you too can wear pink. Pink tutu anyone? A tutu on the beach? On a train journey? For breakfast? You can wear your passion, and embrace a little pink joy everywhere!
Don't forget, if you're thinking about putting a touch of pink in your own tutu style, tell me about it! Send your pictures, share your thoughts, join the fun, #TutuTuesday, on www.pink-tutu.com. It's about showing your own special touch.
Au revoir! Until next time, let your imagination soar and let's get everyone wearing a pink tutu!
