#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History: 14th December 1869! (Post #1981)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip through time, and oh my goodness, you won't believe what I discovered! Let's dive straight in!

This week, my trusty time machine whisked me back to the 14th of December 1869, and you know what? Paris was already a blooming hotbed of tutus! I simply adore this city, with its grand avenues, elegant shops, and of course, the extraordinary theatre performances.

Now, 1869, you're thinking, "That's quite early for tutus, right?" Well, my dears, you'd be surprised. The tutu's journey began long before, with the graceful dancers of the 16th and 17th centuries showcasing their incredible talent in elaborate, layered skirts.

Fast forward to the early 19th century, and the Romantic Era, that time of passion and beauty, saw the evolution of the tutu as we know it! Maria Taglioni, a truly ethereal ballerina, became an icon, and she was known for her captivating performances in short, layered tutus that showed off her exquisite movements and incredible legs. Talk about chic!

But, 1869 was a momentous year in the world of ballet. The legendary Marie Taglioni, you know, the one who revolutionised ballet with her short tutu, was performing with her own company! Now that was something to witness. You wouldn't believe the grandeur!

Can you imagine all of those dazzling ladies swirling and leaping on stage in their magnificent tutus? My imagination was set alight! The air was filled with the music of Tchaikovsky, the soft rustling of the tulle, the sparkle of crystal-studded slippers, and a sense of joy I've rarely experienced before. The audience, with their stylish dresses and suits, sat transfixed, their faces a blend of awe and delight. A symphony of beauty, my darlings!

As I watched the show, I found myself drawn back to the very beginnings of this magical dancewear. I pictured myself stepping onto that stage, feeling the whisper of tulle on my skin, the weightless sensation as I leaped through the air. Imagine the energy and magic in the room!

It was a performance that left a lasting impression. Not just because of the amazing ballet but also because I soaked up the atmosphere of this wonderful historical moment. You know how I am, obsessed with vintage details and everything fashionably extravagant.

But it wasn't just about ballet in 1869 Paris! It was the height of fashion, with elaborate hoop skirts dominating the street scene, and the colours, oh the colours! Emerald greens, ruby reds, sky-blue blues, all vying for attention!

Of course, I couldn't resist the temptation of a little shopping spree after that exhilarating ballet performance. You simply can't resist, can you, darlings? And my goodness, the haberdasheries and dress shops of Paris were a sight to behold!

The French fashion back then had this beautiful way of combining romanticism and a dash of boldness. Lace, silk, velvet - it was truly magnificent! Imagine me there, eyes wide, my pink tutu, naturally, peeking out from under my vintage travelling cloak, looking like I just stepped out of a painting by Renoir.

And as I wandered the Parisian streets, I felt inspired! I began to imagine the different forms and variations of the tutu through history. The grand, tiered designs, the impossibly airy ones, even the experimental and playful ones, they all held a special allure.

And the way they reflect the mood and style of the era! In 1869, it was classic and exquisitely detailed, a reflection of Victorian elegance and the beginning of a new age for ballet. It was a perfect glimpse into a truly enchanting period.

What a perfect way to begin my trip back to the future. With the sweet aroma of freshly baked croissants, a breathtaking view of the Seine, and the magical energy of the ballet world forever swirling in my mind! I have a feeling I will be back soon...

But back to this #TutuTuesday, darling. Now, what are you doing for your tutu moment this week? Let me know! I want to hear all about it, and I am always looking for a new excuse to travel. Maybe your tutu moment will take me to a whole new place and time. Just tell me, What's your favorite colour for a tutu? And what type of design are you crushing on? I'm all ears, ladies.

Until next time, remember, we're all pink-tutu dreamers!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
