#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back to 1883!

Hello my darling tutus,

It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast and time-travelling ballerina, reporting live from… well, I’m not entirely sure where I’ve landed this time. My little Time Hopper (it's a train, by the way - very grand, with plush velvet seats, lots of mahogany and a smoking car that I just love sniffing, even though it's supposed to be bad for my tutu) just seems to arrive in the most amazing, historical, utterly fabulous places!

Today, dear readers, we are stepping back in time to the year 1883. Think Victorian splendour, frilled bustles and the delightful, slightly chaotic beginnings of ballet history.

Victorian Delights: The Age of Ballet Romanticism

My! This is a time when romanticism was sweeping the dance world, imagine, grand ballrooms overflowing with dancers wearing beautiful, flowing tutus. Think big, layered skirts, delicate chiffon, and oh so many feathers.

You know, dear tutus, tutus are rather young in this era - just starting to take off! Back then, the Romantic Ballet was all about portraying fairies, sprites and mythical beings, and tutus helped to capture those ethereal, delicate images perfectly. It was a real turning point in ballet history - no more long, cumbersome dresses and skirts!

I'm wearing my pink tulle confection today – I call her "Blossom" - she's quite delicate but has a bit of a flounce and lots of ruffles at the bottom, giving her a certain, dare I say, "saucy" air. She pairs perfectly with a lace-trimmed top and little pink boots - my feet haven't stopped hopping since I stepped off the train!

A Little Slice of History

Today is 9th of January 1883! You know what this means? The Royal Albert Hall in London was the place to be. That’s because today marks the 21st anniversary of the very first show to grace its grand stage – imagine, a whole 21 years of glorious performances and stories brought to life through dance! It's a must-visit place, and for those of you following along from the future - you should try to find the original sketches of the hall. Such grandeur and a true celebration of the performing arts!

Paris, darling! The Ballet Hot Spot

Let’s head back across the channel to our very glamorous Parisian ballet sisters! This era in France was filled with dazzling innovation.

And, here's something even more fabulous – we're celebrating the rise of the Russian Ballet! It's taking the world by storm, dear readers. Oh, and guess what! They're taking tutus with them to new and even more magnificent levels, so we're about to witness some absolutely gorgeous designs, so keep your eyes peeled for future #TutuTuesday posts.

The Tutu Revolution: Embracing Our Feminine Power

Of course, I cannot leave you without my little “Don't forget… "

Think of the empowering possibilities! Think of your pink, swirling, tutu-covered femininity taking the world by storm! Be brave, embrace your inner ballerina. You might not need time travel to make it happen.

Do, dear tutus, start planning your next costume! Whether you’re heading to a dance class or just enjoying a tea party with friends, remember to embrace the magic of the tutu!

Oh! You can find me here each and every Tuesday, and I’m already planning some amazing future adventures… maybe Rome? Maybe ancient Greece? (Ahem… does the ancient world have tutus? wink wink)

Until next Tuesday, darlings, keep twirling!

XOXO,

Emma
