#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirlwind of the 1880s! (Post #2665)

Bonjour mes amies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! This is Emma, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, reporting live from the vibrant streets of Paris, 1883! Ooh la la, what a whirlwind of a week! So much has been going on! (Let’s all take a moment to appreciate those incredible new French bonnets, yes, darling?) And my, oh my, the talk of the town, as usual, is – you guessed it – the Ballet!

Today, it’s January 23rd, 1883, and trust me, this is a date to be noted in your little black book! First of all, it's a Tuesday - and you all know what that means, right? It's Tutu Tuesday! Tadaaaa! I knew I would feel a strong pull towards this year, 1883. It’s simply a delightful blend of the romantic era and the beginning of the Belle Époque! It's where a certain magic really took shape – in the world of ballet, of course!

So, what makes today so special? Well, you know how much I adore those wonderful Paris opera balls, and it just happens that a fabulous one is being held tonight – featuring the beautiful dancers of the Opéra de Paris, the ballet company that is literally the most legendary of its kind! You see, in this period, a magnificent shift was happening. The Romantic Ballet was losing its momentum. Yes, yes, darling! The graceful tutus were still there, still creating a delightful visual and evoking the fairy tales, but the dances themselves were becoming, shall we say, more "real."

And yet, for us, nothing beats those breathtaking tutus, and today, dear friends, those tutus are absolutely glorious! I am completely and utterly obsessed with their intricate embroidery and the romantic flow of their fabric – they’re utterly captivating! The color palette was everything: lush reds, the ever-popular shade of blue (Oh, so chic!) but of course, the pièce de résistance, the star of the show? The colour Pink. It’s as beautiful in this decade as it is in any other! And believe me, darling, those lovely ladies on stage, those elegant Parisian ballerinas are absolutely twirling in it like no one’s business.

Now, before you run out to try your own spin at the new “Ballet Real,” remember the essential ingredient! It's those dazzling tutus that make ballet magical. Just a thought, but don’t you think we should all consider incorporating some tulle into our everyday wardrobe, darling? I can just picture a Parisian boudoir filled with all kinds of pink tulle – from my dress to my hats! It would simply be fabulous!

Of course, darling, I have been taking my own classes this week, practicing for a private showing – (Shhh! This is my little secret!) You can't be a time traveler if you aren't keeping up on the skills! But it wouldn't be me if I weren't adding a touch of… flair! We’ll just have to see if I can tempt a few fashionable folks with a hint of pink!

Oh, I forgot to mention! I stumbled across a most delightful event just the other day! The Musée de la Mode, yes, darling, they're actually displaying a collection of historical theatrical costumes. Just imagine the stories they could tell! There were tutus in a dazzling array of styles! You could see that each designer put their own, exquisite touch on the classic silhouette. I'm always learning, my dears, and that museum was truly inspiring! It simply had to be done, so naturally I dashed off a purchase of a most elegant Victorian era piece… my little secret.

Now, let’s indulge ourselves for a moment! Just think, darling: Imagine arriving at the ball – all those delightful guests! They’re all decked out in elegant ball gowns. So glamorous! Oh, what wonderful fabrics! There is the frou-frou of silk, the sheer delicacy of lace and yes, those beautiful satins. Such elegance, just simply captivating! You’ve got your waltzes, your gavottes… and if you’re lucky, maybe even a touch of a polka or two! My dear, wouldn’t you love to waltz under that Parisian sky? I absolutely adore dancing at the Opéra de Paris. Such energy, so alive, such joy… It's magical. But, darling, just picture this… wouldn’t a sea of pink tutus at that elegant Parisian opera ball just complete the spectacle? The color would complement the romantic era’s love for all things graceful and whimsical. Don't you think it's just simply fabulous? Oh, how utterly lovely.

But you know me, darling! No post would be complete without my Tutu Tip for the day! Now, dear friend, since you all are going to join me for a pink tulle fashion spree, you will need your hair to be perfectly in place! Why? Because, my darling, nothing goes better with an exquisite ballet tutu than the beauty of Victorian hairstyles! You've got your top knots, of course, always a lovely and elegant option, a touch of braiding, but then, imagine this darling, you could take it one step further, tres chic, and you simply cannot resist, you add an enchanting tiara or a beautifully ornate crown. Just picture yourself, my lovelies, all wrapped up in a romantic updo that's perfect for the elegance of our ballet performances and oh, of course, that fabulous, oh, so fabulous tutu… how amazing. Just be sure you take time to enjoy yourself, my dear!

Oh, I do so love our lovely tutu history chats! And the magic it brings to your life. Do feel free to send me a message with your Tutu Tales! Next week we travel on a wonderful railway journey… with tutus! I have such delightful adventures lined up – all of them brimming with a fabulous touch of pink! Now, let’s get out there and make every day a Tutu Tuesday, yes darling! Au revoir!
