Tutu Tuesday: #2767 - A Glimpse into the Ballerina's World of 1885!
Hello darlings! Welcome back to another thrilling edition of Tutu Tuesday, straight from my pink tutu-clad self, Emma, your trusty time-traveling ballerina guide to the glorious history of ballet. This week we're waltzing back to the elegant world of 1885! Buckle your slippers, darlings, this journey is about to get oh-so-romantic!
As always, my pink tutu has whisked me to a fabulous new era. This week, it's 1885, and guess what, my loves? The tutu is still making a grand entrance onto the ballet stage! Imagine, all those yards of tulle fluttering, dancing to the rhythm of graceful ballerinas - just as lovely today as it was back then!
You see, my dears, tutus have been swirling through history since long before the advent of modern ballet, which we associate them with today. Think of all the beautiful dances throughout time - tutus were often used for something similar to the 'dance costumes' we know today. But in the 1880s, oh my dears, the tutu truly began to come into its own as a symbol of ballerina artistry! It took on this graceful form and length that makes it just so wonderfully feminine - it almost becomes an extension of the dancer's body, wouldn't you say?
Of course, I had to find myself a little something something from the world of fashion of 1885! As it is still a tad chilly this January in the charming Paris - ah, wouldn't you know, it seems that every January, fashion takes its own spin, shall we say, back through time. My newest darling is a gorgeous, full-skirted gown - a delightful mix of silk and lace. It comes complete with a tiny, elegant lace trim around the neck - which my pink tutu perfectly compliments, you see, darling? I know I have said it before, but there truly is something magical about pink!
I must confess that I do adore travelling by train - the carriages, the anticipation, it’s like stepping out of the modern world and entering into the pages of a vintage book. As the steam train rushes towards Paris, my thoughts are carried away on a fantastical journey to all the fashionable, beautiful things this enchanting city holds.
Now, let’s delve deeper into the tutu's fascinating journey through the annals of history, shall we? In the 1880s, the ballet scene was particularly captivating - full of thrilling shows, innovative choreography, and of course, beautiful ballerinas dressed in magnificent costumes! This era saw a distinct shift towards what we'd call 'Romantic Ballet.'
You're probably thinking, Emma, you’re full of those fantastical descriptions of dance, aren't you? Yes, you are right, dear! I find myself very much drawn to these ethereal ideas - that is what brings me here to see all of the beauty and grace that the dance offers.
Well, 'Romantic Ballet,' you see, focused on love, fantasy, and emotions - the perfect backdrop for those airy, graceful tutus. Can you imagine, a ballerina twirling and floating across the stage in her airy costume, the whole audience captivated by her every movement? Oh, my! And then the music swells, the lights illuminate her in a halo, and the tutu swirls with every pirouette and plié! Isn't that pure magic, my dears? It truly was during this time, and this is what we love!
Speaking of magic, did you know that there was a particularly renowned ballerina, a dancer who truly embody the elegance and magic of Romantic Ballet? Why, of course, I am talking about Carlotta Grisi! This breathtaking beauty had a natural talent for conveying grace and elegance through her performances! She danced so flawlessly that she almost appeared weightless as she glided across the stage. A truly remarkable performance!
And while we are speaking of all these romantic ballerina moments of this era, don’t forget the tutus! They evolved so wonderfully in the 1880s. The focus on delicate and feminine designs for the dancers’ costumes became more popular, giving us the beautiful ballerina tutus we are familiar with today. And this delicate detail is what I find so endearing, dear, it makes each dance a work of art, an ethereal symphony. A perfect balance between artistry and dance, oh, so stunning!
As we’re on this trip through ballet history, dear, don’t forget the music! It has also taken an evolution along with dance. Composers like Tchaikovsky - you must know the names darling! - have created some of the most breathtakingly beautiful ballets with enchanting music, creating a romantic symphony for both the audience and dancers. This combination of beautiful music, swirling costumes, and grace made these ballet performances really spectacular! Just imagine the beauty of those delicate twirls! It really was a sight to behold.
Now, if you want to find out how the tutu made its way into your life today, how about you journey back in time with me every week and learn together? Let's enjoy this wonderful journey of ballet history.
See you next week for Tutu Tuesday! I have lots to tell you - about another exciting date!
Until then, keep twirling and never lose sight of the magical wonder of the tutu, my loves!
Always pink, always dancing,
Emma xoxo
