#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: January 28th, 1890 - A Glimpse Into Parisian Elegance! (Blog Post #3031)

Bonjour, darlings! Emma here, back again for another whirlwind #TutuTuesday adventure, ready to twirl you through the fascinating history of the tutu. This week, we’re travelling back to a time of opulence and artistic flourishes, Paris in 1890! Buckle up, my lovelies, we’re in for a ride filled with feather boas, extravagant ball gowns, and, of course, gorgeous tutus!

Oh, darling, just imagining myself stepping off the train in Paris! The excitement alone would be enough to make me twirl! As I saunter through the streets of Paris, a kaleidoscope of colour and fashion catches my eye. Bustling crowds of elegant Parisians pass by, and I’m mesmerized by the exquisite ladies in their chic, structured gowns, and the handsome gentlemen in their dapper suits. What a wonderful world!

My travels today are not only about fashion, darlings, but about an event I've been dying to attend: the premiere of "La Bayadère" at the Paris Opera! Oh, to see this legendary ballet masterpiece come to life with such exquisite dancers wearing these beautiful tutus! I just know it'll be a visual spectacle!

A Peek into the Tutu's History: 1890

Speaking of tutus, darlings, let’s take a journey through their evolution in 1890. While the tutu was already established as the dancer's go-to garment, it was still undergoing some beautiful changes! The earlier versions, you see, were often long and flowing, resembling the full, Romantic era skirts. But by 1890, the tutu began evolving to the form we often see today: shorter, with a focus on highlighting the leg movements of the ballerina.

The tutu we see in "La Bayadère", my lovelies, will likely showcase these features! It’s about striking that perfect balance of grace, fluidity, and delicate movement – which of course is all enhanced by the tutu! Think soft layers of tulle cascading and swirling in the most magical way!

It’s all about movement, isn't it, darling? That is what makes ballet so enthralling – that sheer elegance and artistry, brought to life with every pirouette, every jeté! And the tutu, well, it's like a canvas on which these exquisite movements come alive!

Parisian Fashion Frenzy

But darling, our little journey into the tutu history is only one half of our Parisian adventure! Let's not forget the real fashion craze happening in this beautiful city. Think dramatic lace and delicate satin, ruched sleeves, elaborate embroidery, and those show-stopping bonnets!

The Victorian era was at its peak, my lovelies, with a focus on beauty and opulence, all wrapped up in refined fashion. This fashion era wasn't only about intricate ball gowns but also featured beautiful coats with fur collars, high-waisted jackets, and the lovely walking skirt – a silhouette designed for more active women who wished for comfort as well as style.

What I wouldn’t give to stroll through the department stores of Paris in 1890! Oh, darling, to browse those enchanting racks bursting with fabrics and accessories! Can you just imagine the silks, satins, velvets, and lace? Just breathtaking!

I even dare to venture into the Parisian theater district, soaking up the enchanting atmosphere. Just a glance at the Parisian opera house, the Opéra Garnier, gives me goosebumps, darlings. The magnificent architecture, the grand staircase, and the sense of elegance, it is all so utterly divine!

My dream, of course, is to step into this magical place in a *pink tutu!* And I believe it’s totally attainable with my special travelling gift! Just the right combination of glitter, imagination, and a sprinkle of pink, darlings!

A Day to Remember

Well, darling, it’s getting late! Our time travelling carriage is about to depart, taking us back to our own time. But let's hold onto these fantastical images, these moments of elegance, grace, and sheer beauty!

And if you ever get the chance to visit Paris, darling, I beg of you, indulge yourself! Immerse yourself in the city’s charming atmosphere, revel in the world-class fashion, and perhaps even experience a ballet at the grand Opéra Garnier. You won't regret it!

That’s all for this week's #TutuTuesday, darlings! Remember to follow me on pink-tutu.com, and #TutuTuesday, and let’s keep this passion for tutus going, forever and always!
