Hello lovelies! Welcome back to my #TutuTuesday journey through the wonderful world of ballet tutus! Today, we’re taking a train (pink carriage, naturally) all the way back to February 4th, 1890, a time when tutus were as popular as a brand-new feathered hat! And trust me, those feathered hats were a real sensation!
This Tuesday takes us to the heart of ballet, Paris, darling, the City of Lights! The air hums with the whispers of fashion and the click-clack of elegant shoes on cobblestone streets. A whiff of perfume lingers in the air, as charming men escort beautiful ladies to theatres for evening performances.
But our focus today is the tutu itself, isn’t it? Now, 1890 – just imagine: the Romantic era in ballet is over, and a new, more technical style is dawning! The tutus have changed from the billowing, whimsical skirts to a shape that lets the ballerinas leap, spin, and show off their graceful limbs. They’re still gorgeous, with tiers and layers of tulle that make them flutter and shimmer as they dance.
Think about it! 1890 is a year that saw ballerinas like La Belle Otero taking the stage by storm! They wore breathtaking tutus, each a masterpiece in their own right, crafted with an artistic eye that made even the simplest movements seem like a masterpiece of the dance.
What makes 1890 particularly interesting is that tutus were also beginning to move beyond the ballet studio! The popularity of the dance, especially in France, was influencing the styles of fashion around the world. Tutus were showing up in streetwear, opera houses, even social gatherings, worn by ladies with flair and style who wanted a touch of the magic that enthralled them in the theatre!
In my travels through time, I’ve learned that these tutus were an important part of a grand fashion movement. They represented a departure from traditional clothing and were bold declarations of self-expression for women. Imagine being a woman who’s not confined to layers of cumbersome fabric. Wearing a light, graceful tutu must have felt incredibly free and empowered, just as it still feels today!
Speaking of tutus… today's #TutuTuesday theme is inspired by Pink. Imagine a soft pink tulle, delicately layered, dancing under the lights! A ballet studio painted a delicate shade of blush. The prettiest ballerina shoes, finished with a dash of pink satin. Now isn’t that simply darling?
Even though my journey today takes us back to Paris in the late 19th century, it reminds me that tutus are still here today, as fashionable as they’ve always been! Every time I wear one, it makes me feel like I'm part of a magical, enduring story, just like these Parisian ladies from the past! I can practically feel the flutter of their tulle, their confidence, their love for ballet.
That's all for today's #TutuTuesday! Make sure to share your pink tutu love in the comments below and tell me what your favorite ballet tutu moment is, in your time, of course! We may be thousands of miles away in time, but we’re all united in our passion for ballet and those breathtaking tutus! I hope you all have a lovely, tutu-tastic week!
Love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
