#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time - 1890-05-27

Welcome back, my darlings, to another glorious #TutuTuesday! Today, we're twirling back to May 27th, 1890, a time when tutus were just starting to blossom into the exquisite masterpieces they are today.

My Pink Tutu is a blush pink confection, swirling with shimmering sequins and delicate tulle. I feel like a perfect rosebud, ready to bloom on this charming journey into the past!

My latest escapade? A grand train journey across Europe! The steam engine huffed and puffed, taking me through a tapestry of rolling fields, majestic mountains, and quaint villages. Each stop brought new inspiration - imagine a market bursting with lace in Vienna, or a shop in Paris crammed with fabulous silks and satins. The possibilities are endless!

But enough about my travels! Let's talk tutus. The year is 1890, and tutus are still finding their footing. Imagine this, my dears, a world without the romantic, billowing skirts that bring our ballerina stories to life! Well, that's the reality of this period! While tutus were being used in opera productions and for the chorus line, the classical, flowing style of ballet was taking centre stage, with longer, elegant skirts that gave the illusion of graceful flight.

But don't be disheartened, my darlings! Change is in the air. Just around the corner, the first whispers of the tutu revolution would be heard. Enter the iconic ballerina, Anna Pavlova, the ethereal White Swan, a visionary whose dancing and enchanting costumes would forever transform the landscape of ballet. The tutu was finally taking its rightful place on the world stage!

Fashion is my passion, my darlings, and I have been eagerly devouring historical fashion journals. Imagine my delight in discovering the incredible ballgowns and gowns of the Victorian era! We're talking decadent layers of silk, lavish embroidery, and the finest lace, all intricately constructed and oh-so-stylish. The colours were divine! Rich emerald greens, shimmering sapphire blues, and delicate shades of pastel - absolutely delightful! I envision a stunning combination of these era’s fashions combined with a playful ballerina touch for my next pink tutu design!

Back in Derbyshire, where my heart always resides, life is humming along. My dear family is indulging in the latest novel - "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. Everyone is buzzing about its scandalous storyline and deliciously wicked characters.

What's my highlight for this day? A delightful picnic in the Derbyshire countryside with a good book and a bottle of local sparkling wine. As the sun gently sets, casting a warm glow upon the lush landscape, I can't help but feel grateful for the simple pleasures life offers. Perhaps later, a quiet stroll in the gardens will lead me to new inspirations for my next #TutuTuesday blog post!

This journey through time has taught me that every era is a unique adventure, overflowing with its own fascinating story, style, and rhythm. Every place and period in history has something magical to offer, just waiting to be discovered.

Now, I must dash! The world is calling for a pink tutu revolution! Don't forget to join me every Tuesday on www.pink-tutu.com, and don't be shy to leave a comment below! I adore hearing from my fellow ballet enthusiasts and would love to share our passion for dance, fashion, and everything pink!

Until next week, darling readers, happy twirling!

Your forever pink-tutu-loving, Emma

P.S. My fellow dance aficionados, did you know? Today marks the day that La Scala opera house in Milan debuted Verdi’s Falstaff! Oh, what an honour to witness the grand spectacle and its dazzling costuming, all contributing to this breathtaking opera's captivating atmosphere! A truly magical experience!
