Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through the 1890s! 🩰🌸

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, back with another #TutuTuesday instalment for your sartorial delight! This week, I'm twirling back to the 1890s - a truly enchanting time for ballet and all things feminine, and of course, for tutus!

Now, before we start our waltz through time, let's have a quick chinwag about what makes this date so special!

On 3rd June 1890, my dears, we find ourselves on the cusp of a new decade, where fashion is evolving like a blooming rose. Bustles are still big, and a lady's silhouette is a charming hourglass, but there's a delightful sense of whimsy starting to trickle in. I'm picturing it now, all the delightful tea parties with their parasols, dainty bonnets, and maybe, just maybe, a peek of a glorious, full tutu!

But why a pink tutu? Ah, my loves, haven't you heard? Pink is the colour of passion, romance, and most importantly, sparkle! And when it comes to ballet, what better way to reflect those sentiments than with a fluttering, billowing cloud of pink tulle? Just imagine the delightful shock and delight as it spins around the stage, like a fairy dusting a meadow with magic!

Paris, The Heart of Elegance!

To get a true sense of the ballet world in 1890, we need to head straight to Paris! This magnificent city was, and still is, the epicentre of haute couture and theatre! The ballerinas of the Paris Opéra Ballet, with their elegant pointe work and beautifully embroidered tutus, are true paragons of grace. Imagine, they were even sporting little, fitted jackets over their tutus! Now that's what I call Parisian chic!

The 1890s saw the rise of many iconic choreographers like Marius Petipa, the mastermind behind Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, masterpieces of ballet history! Oh, to have been in the audience, captivated by their story-telling and stunning choreography! I would have certainly given them a rousing round of applause - perhaps even a few more turns with my pink tutu!

Train Journeys to Ballet Paradise

Speaking of ballet, I recently had the most glorious time traveling by train! Yes, darlings, the journey was as much of a spectacle as the show itself! It’s such a luxurious way to travel – I find myself simply captivated by the views and the romantic ambiance. This train travel is quite simply an exquisite experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend it, my loves, for all of you with wanderlust in your hearts.

Pink Tutus For All!

My aim in life is to have everyone dancing around in pink tutus. Because frankly, what’s better than a pink tutu, right? We can wear them to tea parties, to the theatre, to a picnic in the park, or even on a journey through time! My tutu's have even accompanied me on my train journeys, turning it all into an adventure! My own pink tutus have already traversed countless cities and centuries!

Imagine if the entire world could take part in this fashion revolution – imagine the sheer volume of pink tulle that would fill the streets! But just imagine! You can tell me all your favourite tutu tales and your dreams on #pink-tutu.com. I will post all your messages. You will help to get this worldwide tutu-revolution happening!

So until next #TutuTuesday, darlings, may your days be filled with a flurry of pink tulle and a sprinkle of magic!

Until then, keep twirling,

Emma 🌸🩰

P.S. Do remember that I'm on the look out for inspiring tutus! If you see an absolutely stunning tutu, especially if it’s pink, send me a picture, with a bit about it, through #pink-tutu.com – it might even make it into one of my blog posts! I can’t wait to hear all about it, darlings.
