#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirlwind Back to 1891! 🩰💖
Hello my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another edition of #TutuTuesday! This week, we're taking a trip back in time to March 31st, 1891, to peek into the history of ballet and discover the gorgeous, glamorous tutus that were gracing the stages. Buckle up, darling, because this journey is going to be simply divine!
This is my 3092nd post on www.pink-tutu.com and I'm positively thrilled to share this journey with you! It's a special day today. The lovely ladies in Paris are getting ready for the annual Spring Fashion Extravaganza! Imagine rows upon rows of stunning dresses, glittering jewels and, of course, those exquisite, feather-light tutus, floating down the catwalk! And what could be more exciting than seeing the latest innovations in tulle and feather-trimming!
My latest time travel adventures funded by a brilliant performance of La Bayadère in London last weekend, have brought me right to the heart of ballet's enchanting world. This period was truly the golden age of the Romantic tutu, you see.
As I hop off the train in Paris (nothing quite like the luxurious ride in first-class - such plush seats and delightful chatter with a lovely marquise - she adored the colour pink!) I immediately notice how much influence ballet is having on the latest trends. Fashion is taking cues from the elegant movements of dancers and the enchanting gowns worn by the leading ladies on stage. It's a glorious intermingling of art and fashion, just like we are seeing again now! It makes me truly happy! It really seems like everyone is being influenced by those magical tutus! I'm truly excited to get my first glimpse of the Spring Collection!
Imagine the stage lit by gaslights, a beautiful ballerina gracefully swirling in her delicate, knee-length tutu, embellished with cascading layers of tulle, lace, and even some luxurious silk. Just like I've been wearing today in my photos! What a dream!
Of course, those romantic tutu's couldn't be imagined without a tight-fitting bodice, or as we like to call it - a "corset", a must-have garment that accentuates the ballerina’s beautiful figure and enhances the illusion of a long, graceful line. Oh how those corseted ballerinas can leap, spin and twirl with the greatest elegance and poise. And of course, those delicate little satin slippers! Ballet was quite the captivating art form then and of course, it still is!
My heart does flutter, however, to see that many ballerinas today feel as I do - that pink is the absolute, irreplaceable color for ballet. Although I've travelled many a time to many a date in history, and let me tell you, that is the true constant! Pink, pink, pink! Always pink!
And wouldn't you know it, the Spring Fashion show today had several stunning designs of pink tutus! And a wonderful collection of dresses for the lovely women that love wearing the latest designs! It was such an exquisite collection! From the simplest and most feminine blush-coloured tutus to more dramatic hot pink creations with a sprinkle of rhinestones, the creativity truly took my breath away. And just as in the modern age, fashion lovers were eagerly embracing the trend. Every day is a delightful ballet performance here in Paris!
Now, before I head out for afternoon tea with a very glamorous duchess - I will make a point of enjoying the best Opéra Paris has to offer and find some delightful pink ribbon and a beautiful tutu from one of the charming shops around the Tuileries Gardens - I'll share my discoveries with you tomorrow on the #PinkTutu.com website - keep checking in. The world of fashion and ballet is waiting for you! And remember, always dress in your favourite tutu and always remember, Pink is, is, is the colour of elegance! 💖
I hope you've enjoyed my latest time travel adventure to 1891 and the magical world of the romantic tutu. I promise you, dear reader, I'll be bringing you another peek into the history of the tutu and it’s dazzling influence on fashion very soon! Until next Tuesday, darling! And always remember, “Live life in a tutu, you'll be happier for it! ”
See you next week!
With love, Emma, The Tutu Queen 🌸 💖
