Tutu Tuesday #3113: A Whirl Through Time - 1891!

Bonjour mes amies! Itā€™s your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another delve into the glorious history of the tutu! As you know, my lifeā€™s mission is to bring the magical twirl of the tutu to everyone, so hop aboard my trusty time machine and letā€™s journey back to 1891!

Ooh, August is always a lovely month to visit the past! The air is full of sunshine and the scent of blooming gardens. But 1891 was an even more special time in history, as itā€™s when the first recorded performance of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" took place! Isn't that simply magical? Can you imagine seeing this majestic ballet for the very first time? The white tutus of the swans, the dramatic score, the graceful movements ā€“ it must have been absolutely breathtaking!

And talking about tutusā€¦ Oh, darling, have I got a story for you! This year, Parisian fashion is all about the ā€œEmpireā€ style ā€“ itā€™s just divine! You see, everyoneā€™s falling head over heels for the elegantly flowing fabrics and the high waistline. And guess what? This means absolutely gorgeous tutus, just like the swans in "Swan Lake," made with soft chiffon, billowing and billowing. The best part is they're not just for ballerinas, you see, darling! Theyā€™re popping up all over the place, worn at galas and parties, even at the races! Itā€™s a true tutu revolution!

As for where to find the best tutus in 1891, look no further than Paris. The French really are at the heart of ballet and style. From grand ballets like the OpƩra Garnier to small intimate studios tucked away in cobbled streets, the entire city is just buzzing with the joy of dance!

Now, letā€™s have a little tea party to discuss our own tutu fashion today, shall we? Because we wouldn't want to miss our afternoon cream tea, now would we? Today, I'm wearing a magnificent pink tutu. I found it in a shop in Derbyshire (you never know what treasures youā€™ll find in vintage shops). It has such lovely layers and tulle, and it makes me feel like a princess.

Talking of Derbyshire, do you know, darling, this wonderful region has the most exquisite little dance studios nestled in its beautiful rolling countryside? Imagine: green fields, charming villages, and the sounds of elegant waltzes echoing through the airā€¦ Oh, itā€™s just the dream! So, letā€™s raise a glass of sparkling lemonade and dream about tutus and dancing until the cows come home!

My dears, I've been busy in this grand era and am truly enjoying my time travel adventures. Speaking of adventures, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below and remember to join me next Tuesday for more tutu history! Until then, remember to twirl, twirl, twirl and keep the spirit of the tutu alive!

With lots of love,

Emma xx

P.S. Fancy visiting me and this era? Don't miss the grand unveiling of "Swan Lake" at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on the 15th of March, 1894! It will truly be a sight to behold!

P.P.S. Did you know that August 25th in 1891 marked the birth of the first commercial wireless communication? Now that's a bit of technological history! It might not be related to tutus, but I find it endlessly fascinating!
