Tutu Tuesday #3202: A Whirl Through 1893, and Why Pink Rules!
Bonjour mes chères tutu-lovers! 🩰✨ Emma here, your time-travelling ballerina, reporting live from a Parisian springtime! Oh, how I do love this city! The chic shops overflowing with frills and silks, the charming cafés, and of course, the grand theatres that echo with the magic of ballet.
This week, our #TutuTuesday journey takes us back to 9th May, 1893, just over a century ago. Remember, dear readers, in this era, the ballet world was evolving at a thrilling pace. You see, the tutu hadn't yet taken on the classic, romantic shape we know and love today. Instead, the ballerinas of this time sported more of a bell-shaped skirt, often adorned with layers of tulle or lace. Imagine the sound of their graceful twirls - just whispers of fabric rustling against the stage floor.
As I stand here in the heart of Paris, I can practically hear the music, the laughter, and the cheers echoing from the Palais Garnier. Just a stone's throw from here, history is being made! For on this very date, the esteemed "La Fille Mal Gardée" opened at the Palais Garnier. Now, this delightful ballet is one of the absolute jewels in the French repertoire, a story filled with love, mischief, and a beautiful dance between a wilful girl and her would-be suitors!
And how does it all connect to tutus? Well, you see, "La Fille Mal Gardée" features some of the earliest appearances of a "classic" tutu as we now know it. Just imagine – swirling tiers of soft tulle, a symbol of feminine grace and artistry, gliding across the stage! Isn't that beautiful? It makes me long to throw on my own pink tutu and twirl amidst the cobbled streets of Paris, dreaming of all those charming moments on stage.
Speaking of pink! I am simply overjoyed by how popular my little blog, www.pink-tutu.com, has become! It's incredible to think that my passion for tutus and all things feminine can connect with so many of you. Now, let's have a chat about the ultimate colour – pink! It’s no surprise to you that pink reigns supreme in my tutu world. It's the colour of elegance, whimsy, and pure delight. Why else would all my friends say I'm "wearing pink like nobody's business"? I daresay a pink tutu can brighten even the most dreary of days. I certainly aim to spread the joy!
Speaking of spreading joy... I must confess that funding these delightful journeys through time is no small feat! Thank heavens for my dear, talented friends at the ballet, who let me perform with them on occasion. It is truly a passion for me, and watching the audience light up with joy - oh, the magic!
But now, my dear readers, the sun is starting to dip, painting the sky in beautiful hues of pink and purple. As my travels must continue, I want you to think about all the amazing ways we can honour the history of tutus. From the early bell shapes to the elegant styles we see today, each era has woven a fascinating tale.
So, why not go forth and celebrate with your own "Tutu Tuesday" – embrace the colour pink, find your inner ballerina, and let your imagination take flight! You can even share your favourite pink-tutu looks and stories with us at #TutuTuesday on social media! I love seeing how everyone expresses their own tutu style.
Remember, tutus aren’t just about ballet – they're about embracing the joy of movement, of expression, of a dash of magic sprinkled into our lives!
See you all next Tuesday!
XOXO
Emma, your Pink Tutu Queen 🩰 💕
