#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through History – 1895! 🩰🌸
Hey there, lovely readers! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another captivating journey through ballet history! This week, we're pirouetting our way to the enchanting world of 1895. Grab your tiaras and tutus, ladies, it's going to be a spectacular adventure!
As you know, this is blog post number 3314 – a staggering number of tutus, historical discoveries, and fashion revelations shared with you! I'm always in awe of how far our little #TutuTuesday adventure has come! We've hopped across time periods, explored costumes, met famous dancers, and learned so much about the evolution of ballet. This journey of sharing this passion with you – oh, the joy it brings! 💖
So, picture this: It's a sweltering summer day in July 1895, and I'm perched upon the grand, wrought-iron staircase of the Paris Opera House. The air buzzes with anticipation for the evening’s performance. Paris, of course! This city is an absolute delight – everything is chic and vibrant, with its dazzling cafés and fashion boutiques, overflowing with elegant dresses, perfectly styled hats, and the most gorgeous, lace-trimmed undergarments you could ever imagine. Imagine – Paris in 1895! I could practically hear the rustling of silk and satin as I strolled down the Champs-Élysées!
I couldn’t help but note the splendid elegance of the Parisians - so exquisitely stylish! The women in their flowing skirts, billowing parasols, and high-heeled shoes are the epitome of graceful Parisian femininity. I’m utterly enchanted by their refined and classic aesthetic. In a way, their elegance has definitely seeped into our beloved ballet – those intricate bodices, the layered tutus, it all speaks to a world of refined femininity, wouldn’t you say?
And speaking of ballet, it's utterly fascinating to step back and witness how much ballet has evolved since 1895! Oh, darling, the ballet in 1895 was something special. Just the sheer dramatic flair and intensity - captivating! Imagine, intricate steps set to dramatic, powerful music! You’d be captivated by every nuance!
Let’s chat about our dearest tutus for a moment! This is, of course, my favourite topic! The tutus of 1895 were positively regal! A touch more romantic than the modern tutus, with fuller skirts and more delicate embellishments. Think flowing tiers of tulle and delicate lace trimming. The bodice of the tutu had become far more elaborate, with a variety of styles for different characters. Oh, wouldn’t you simply adore a classic Romanticism-era tutu? It’s pure poetry in motion!
Did you know that this very date in 1895 - July 2nd - was the date that one of my favourite ballerinas - Anna Pavlova, was born in Russia! Oh, darling! What an amazing coincidence! Anna was, you know, the Queen of Romantic Ballet – it was all so dreamy and elegant. Her performances were truly transcendent – she could bring a room to silence with her exquisite artistry! How can I resist travelling back in time to meet her?
Imagine, Anna Pavlova performing on a Paris stage! It’s so easy for me to transport myself back to the theatre - seeing those beautiful tutus, swirling and dancing with each precise and captivating step, those mesmerizing costumes - every aspect just magical! It truly makes one want to rush out and join in with the spectacle! Just picture yourself as a dancer in the chorus – those beautiful tutus, each perfectly tied and designed for each specific choreography – isn’t it absolutely heavenly!
Oh darling! Imagine! Back then, ballet was an exhilarating experience for audiences – there was something simply intoxicating about seeing these dancers move with such effortless grace. Even if you were watching the simplest ballet – even a simple pas de deux – there was magic in every moment!
After taking in the spectacle, I love the post-theatre feeling of Paris at night. The lights of the boulevard glimmering, the laughter from cafés, the hushed excitement of people leaving the theatre – It’s simply the most enchanting combination! There is something incredibly delightful about travelling through time to these iconic historical locations! It’s so magical.
This trip to 1895 in Paris, it was an extraordinary escape, simply full of fashion, fabulous ballet and history – it was truly magical. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Parisian outing if I didn’t stop for a divine pastry at Ladurée! A delicious, light macaron – a perfect finale to a stunning day in Paris!
Of course, you know I couldn’t resist making a stop at one of the many wonderful fashion ateliers in Paris. So many delectable hats and accessories – It was hard to resist! As I say – it’s always best to go for a fabulous shopping spree on my #TutuTuesday travels. Oh, I found the most divine shade of pink for my new travel tutu – a vintage, lace-trimmed delight – it simply couldn’t be resisted!
Now, my sweet reader, it's your turn. How did you get your tutu inspiration? What historical periods enchant you? Have you danced or seen ballet in the romantic style? Do share with me your experiences in the comments below!
Stay rosy and tutu-fully stylish!
Love,
Emma
