Tutu Tuesday #3315: A Glimpse into the Past!

Hello my lovely tutu enthusiasts! Itā€™s Emma here, your pink-tutu-clad time traveler, back with another blast from the ballet past. I've travelled back in time again, this time to 9th July, 1895!

Can you imagine a world without stretchy, colourful fabrics, a world where everything is made from corded velvet and silk? It's a little bit of a sartorial shock, let me tell you, and certainly doesn't lend itself to tutus in the way we're used to. But that doesn't mean the dancing world was entirely without beauty!

Ballet's Edwardian Glamour

It's a wonderful period to visit. Edwardian fashion! It's a feast for the eyes, darling. Long flowing dresses with a definite ā€œSā€ shape silhouette, lace, ruffles, frills... it's enough to make even the most seasoned fashionista swoon. Ballet costumes were certainly influenced by this fashion. I can picture those billowing skirts, shimmering with sequins and silk, as they danced across the stage.

It wasn't quite the tutu era we know and love today. Imagine the weight! Imagine the heat! No wonder they often went barefoot! I wonder how often their exquisite skirts got accidentally tripped over... Iā€™ll be sure to check this out for next weekā€™s blog post.

Today is the opening night of ā€œGiselle,ā€ a famous ballet that has stood the test of time. I imagine those delicate flowers, swirling across the stage like ethereal fairies, those impossibly graceful arabesques, and those powerful leaps. Itā€™s going to be amazing, simply amazing. And letā€™s be honest, what could be more fitting than attending such a glorious event than wearing a fabulous, pink tutu?

Backstage Buzz: Where Tutus Took Shape

So what is happening behind the scenes with this early version of the tutus? The ā€œtutuā€ itself had been introduced around 1839 by the celebrated Marie Taglioni. This ā€œromanticā€ period is all about lightness and grace. Those stiff, hard to move in court costumes? Forgotten! Weā€™re in a world of flow, with elegant lines and freedom of movement. Itā€™s revolutionary and totally inspiring!

I hear whispers that designers are always seeking ways to innovate. Imagine the thrill of discovering a new fabric or a revolutionary technique that would help a ballerinaā€™s movements soar! This kind of innovation is exactly what drives me, and what pushes me to go on my ballet adventures! Itā€™s no wonder the stage is such an inspiring space.

Speaking of inspiration... Have you all had a chance to check out my new pink tutu range? This weekā€™s arrivals are simply exquisite, and perfect for both dance and fashion. Just head over to the online shop (you can click the link at the end of the post), and grab your perfect shade. Remember to snap a selfie, tag me, and use the hashtag #PinkTutuLove. Weā€™d love to see you in our collection!

Time Travelling Fashionista:

Speaking of shopping, one of the joys of my time travels is discovering the shopping habits of different eras! This period is quite different from our time. If you want a new fabric for a costume, you have to actually visit the shop! Itā€™s so much easier for me to go to a shop, take my fancy tutu to the fitting room and just try it on! And my goodness, when Iā€™ve gone back to times of corsetry, the things those women had to wear were a little painful, and you could only imagine what that did for their dancing! It seems they just took everything in stride ā€“ they would look elegant and perfectly put together whatever the circumstance. I am taking serious fashion inspiration from those amazing women. And so should you!

Traveling to the Next Tutu Adventure...

This trip back to 1895 has truly been a dream! The fashion, the energy, and of course, the ballet, have left me filled with joy. I'm already plotting my next journey! Maybe to Paris? Imagine those bustling cafes, those beautiful parks, and the intoxicating sights and sounds of a city buzzing with life and art! I can almost taste it already... A little pastry and a coffee... The streets bustling with Parisians... and maybe a chance to catch a performance at the Palais Garnier! And let's be honest, my darling readers, I just can't leave home without my pink tutu...

It's almost time for me to travel again, but I wanted to let you know about this amazing charity performance I am participating in! Itā€™s ā€œGiselleā€ in Edinburgh, and all proceeds are going towards helping young aspiring dancers, so I simply have to do my part and help with this fabulous cause.

Have a lovely Tutu Tuesday! Until next week, stay bright, stay bubbly and be sure to wear a little pink wherever you go. Remember, itā€™s not about what's fashionable, itā€™s about what makes you happy, my darling friends!
